Installation and First Steps
Question: The automatic update of WoP doesn't work!
Answer: Check you internet settings for http proxy server and firewalls. If one or both are activated you can set the proxy also for the updater (AutoUpdater->Options->Advanced Options->Proxy), or please consult your network administrator to fix the problem.
To get the newest updates you need an internet connection via HTTP to the update server "http://worldofpirates.4players.de/". Proxy servers may take up to some days to get the newest WoP updates because they may cache older files.
Firewalls could block the internet connection to the WoP servers.
Question: When starting only a black window shows up or an error message occur.
Answer: Please check the WOP options (AutoUpdater->Options), if you have selected the right DirectX-Version and make sure, you have at least DirectX 8 installed.
If you get the message "Couldn't find a DirectX 3D device!" please check if your graphic card meets the system requirements. Another cause for this message is an activated hardware acceleration in the graphic card driver. Check your driver if the option "Hardware Acceleration" is activated and deactivate it. This option is only available for some cards.
Question: The screen flickers and I cannot type in something in the login screen.
Answer: This may occur when the client lost the foreground focus. Other Applications started with the option "Always on Top" could block the client and his input cababilities. This can be the Windows Update program or also the task bar when it will be shown in foreground automatically. Programs like Winamp, IRC or ICQ also offers this option. Please make sure, this option is deactivated on all tools you want to use in background. Alternativly you can run WOP in windowed mode or set the client to "always in foreground" too (AutoUpdater->Options->Advanced Options->Graphic).
Question: The screen is blurred or some graphics were marked with light white stripes.
Answer: Check your graphic device driver settings if the option "Anti-Aliasing (FSAA)" is activated and deactivate it. WOP uses mostly prerendered graphics which may not shown correctly when this option is enabled.
Question: The connection to the server fails or will be disconnected often.
Answer: The WoP-Client tries to connect to IP 62.104.23.148 and Port 42042. If you experience problems when connecting to the server please check the settings of your network, router or firewall if the connection is allowed. You also should make sure that the connection will not be disconnected after a certain time. Maybe all background programs or tools should be closed to make sure that they cannot disturb the connection.
