2 days running Windows update has downloaded 2 files .Net Framework 1.0 and 2.0 SP1 but never gets past installing them I have to cancel or I would be waiting forever. I have SP2 on comp so a bit puzzled as to why it is d/loading them any ideas?
Auto update btw
.net framework files take eons to install don't worry if they seem to never get there >< you will most likely already have net framework 3 but 1 and 2 are used applications. Just bear with it and try again you can download them seperatley and install them as individual downloads if the waiting is too long tho.
have checked updates to see what has been installed I have .Net Framework 1.1 then a hotfix for it followed by .Net Framework 2.0 and 3.0 all SP2 so why would it want to install SP1 I don't have ServicePack 1 on machine
Some of them do take bloody ages, just leave it on unless you are worried about electricity usage.
I think the SP2 is net framework SP2 not necessarily windows XP SP2.
auto d/loaded again when I turned PC on this morning and I left it :-
Initializing installation... done!
Installing Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1 (KB929300) (udate 1of 2),,,
Some updates could not be installed
The following updates were not installed
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (KB110806)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1 (KB929300)
Went to windows update and tried from there get the same as above
You can mark updates as "do not download" and hide them too if you really are not interested in individual updates.
On the windows update screen it specifies the option so next time it checks it ignores it. We did this for IE7 at work as it caused some wierd problems with roaming profles. When you want to try them again re-activate them the same way and they will get downloaded again
yeah the .net stuff is just a set of libraries for modern applications, its not part of the operating system, you dont even actually need it unless you run applications wich use it, although i cant tell you what sort of apps do, i have writen a few that do use it.
if it's failing to install windows updates, then there might be file corruption
somewhere, there are ways of resetting windows update, by deleting
certain downloaded files, and re-registering the necessary files,
it's a bit long winded, and for .net framework, probably unecessary anyway,
unless you are running applications that absolutely need the latest .net framework,
which is kinda doubtful.
