Default Critter Guide

What is a Critter?
A critter is a virtual pet that can be cared for, trained, and battled. They have different Battle Stats and will level-up during battles. Leveling up occurs when a critters experience reaches 100%. When they level up the statistics are increased.

Critters also get hungry, every day, and will require food to prevent them getting so hungry that they lose health! When a critters health reaches 0 the critter will die.

To keep a pet fed and healthy you will have to feed it and prevent it being killed in battle!

Critters are displayed in your profile bit near your name on messages you post in the forum. They are also displayed in your full user profile. Your critter can be quickly found by going to the critter home which is a link in the critter menu in the main navbar.

Clicking the image of a critter will take you to the pet profile. This is where you can use an item, view the critter statistics, and the spells the critter has learnt.

If a critter dies it can be resurrected by clicking the resurrect link in the critter profile of the pet. You can also create a grave as a memorial for your critter in the graveyard.

Critter Stats
Ok so you may notice critters have a few different statistics. They are explained below.

Health
The health displays the current health compared to the maximum health the critter can have. You should keep this value above 0 otherwise your critter will die.

Hunger
The hunger is how hungry the critter is. This is displayed as a percentage so you should keep it low. If your critters hunger is too high your critter will start to lose health.

Age
The age displays how old the critter is in days.

Moral
The moral of a critter determines how good or evil the critter is. Critters moral can vary between -100 and +100. Staying around the middle will keep the moral neutral. Moral effects which spells can be used in battle. All spells can be learnt but only spells that match the Moral of the critter can be used.

Strength
The strength is used in battles and determines how hard the critter can hit.

Defence
The defence is also used in battles and determines how much damage will be reduced when the critter is hit in battles.

Agility
The agility again is used in battles and is used to determine the chance of the critter hitting or evading another critter in battle. The agility of both critters is used to determine hit chance.

Experience & Level
Experience is gained through battle or training and when it reaches 100% the critter will level up and the experience will return to 0.

Battle Wins & Losses
The total battles, wins, and losses are also displayed on a critters profile. These basicly provide an idea of the critters battle history. An accomplished champion or a first rate punch bag?

Creating An Egg
Locate the Vet. It is a link in the critter main menu and also on the critters navbar which is displayed on all critters pages.

Once you are at the Vet find the 'Create a Critter Egg' category which is under the 'Vet Items' category. Simply click the 'Click here to create a new egg' link.

Now you can specify the parents (if you already have critters) and select a name for your new critter.

It's worth noting that you can't select a gender. Though it is possible to decipher the gender from the egg. However, I'm not going to tell you how to do that!

It is also possible to know what color your pet will be. The large spots on the egg will show you the color of the embryo.

When you are finished hit the submit button!

Creating A Pet
Only certain members may create a pet. If you cannot you will have to create an egg instead. You could also adopt a pet from the Pet Shop if there are any there!

To create a pet access the Vet and find the link to 'Create a Pet'. When you click this link you will be presented with the different options.

First choose a pet type. You will only be able to select a pet that you can actually afford. The price of each type is displayed.

The other options are Name, Gender and Color.

When you are finished hit the submit button.

Buying
To buy a pet from the Pet Shop simply click the 'Buy' link that is displayed under the Strength, Defence, Agility of a pet. The link will also contain the price that the owner has decided to sell this pet for. If you can afford the pet then the points will be deducted from your account and credited to the previous owners account. You will instantly recieve ownership of the pet.

Selling
Critters can be sold via the Pet Shop. While a pet is advertised in the Pet Shop it is still under your possession so you will still have to keep it alive!

When you sell a pet you can enter a brief description of the pet. This is displayed in the Pet Shop so it is worth writing an inviting description. You will also select the asking price. Note that you will have to pay tax on the price of the pet so remember that.

Pet Items
There are two places you can buy items for your critters, the first is the Market and the second is the Vet. The market sells food items and a few special items like name change, pet re-color and kill items. The Vet sells heal items.

Items have different costs, stock levels and effects to moral. Items may also only work with a specific type of pet. If an item is too expensive for you to afford or out of stock you will not be able to purchase it.

Enter either the Market or the Vet. You can use the critter menu to do this or the critter navbar from a critters page.

Find the item you would like to buy. Each Item has an icon, name, description, stock level, effect, and cost. You can't buy an item if you do not have enough points or if it is out of stock. So check both these fields and only choose one you can actually purchase. Also take note if the item can only be used on a certain pet!

The cost of the item is in the Buy column. Click this link and a confirmation message will pop up, click ok to purchase. Once you purchase the item it will appear in your inventory. This is how you know if the purchase was successful.

If you are in the Vet you will have to use the item right away so select the pet you wish to heal and the item will be applied.

If you have a Market item you have more options. You can choose to use this item on your pet or on someone elses pet, to sell this item back to the market, or to leave it in your inventory. To use an item you will have to go to the critters profile of a pet. To sell back your item in the Market simply click the value of the item in your inventory. After you confirm the action the item will be sold.

When you view a critters profile you will notice that under all the stuff about the pet is your inventory. This is so you can use items to feed, re-name, re-color or kill critters. Kill items only have a 50/50 chance of actually killing a pet. The pet doesn't have to be yours to use an item on it. So you could feed your friends pet if they go away for a while. And you could kill or make very ill someone else's critter.

Saw those pets with Devil horns and halos? And also those regular ones? Wondering how they’re different from each other? That’s explained through…

The Moral System

Located right next to your pet’s hunger bar is the Moral. This varies from -100% to 100%. Evil pets are those with negative moral, neutral with their moral in the middle, and good when they get positive levels.

Moral influences not only the appearance of pets, but it’s also important in battle. Good pets can use good spells, evil pets, evil spells, and neutral pets, neutral spells. Water and Ice are considered positive elements, Earth is neutral, Fire and Energy are negative. During battle, you’ll only be able to use the spells that are according to your pet’s moral.

So be sure not to buy the wrong spells at the magic shop next time!

Basic Pet Types

Boosh: Boosh pets are big and strong. They have a lot of Strength and huge Defence. Their Life is also boosted. However, to compensate this, their Agility level is low. Hope not to get struck by one of those hits.

Kirog: Kirogs are primate-likely. They're the most balanced type of Pet, with regular levels of Strenght, Defense and lower Agility. Their Life is also moderate.

Roid: Looking like insects, Roids are somewhat like Kirogs, as they're pretty balanced too. The main difference is that Roids have less Strenght and Defense than Kirogs, but higher Agility and Life.

Thukat: Thukats are canine-likely. With not much Strenght or Defense, their huge Agility makes them hard to hit. Life levels aren't that high either.

Zumkat: It's not only the names that are similar. Thukats and Zumkats follow the same pattern. The Zumkats, however, convert some of their little Strenght and Defense to boost Agility and increase Life a bit. They won't hurt you much when they strike, but it'll surely be frustrating trying to hit them.

Battling, Gaming and Trading

There are a few parts to battles. Creating a Battle, Joining a Battle, and participating in the battle. In this guide I will explain how to do the first of these, creating a Battle.

Step 1: Go to the Arena section of the critter menu area. This can be found one of three ways.
-go to the navigation bar below the header image, click on the link that says critter (between Search and Quick Links), find Arena in the drop down list and click it.
-Go to the critter main menu which can be reached by going to the above dropdown menu and clicking the first option...'critter Home'
-Click this link

Step 2: In the Arena Screen you will see two Categories; Unstarted Battles and Started Battles. In this guide we will be focusing only on Unstarted Battles, so look at that category and in the lower left corner you will see a link that says "Create"; click that link.

Step 3: This brings up the 'Create a Battle' Screen. From here you can see two fields and one drop down menu. In this step we will focus on the first field..'Battle Title' Pretty straight foward...enter a title for your battle, this will be what it is called when other members look at it to decide if they would like to join or not.

Step 4: From the drop down menu select a battle ground. At this time there is only 1, 'Arena'

Step 5: No fill in the amount of Contenders in the final field. You can choose between 2 and 8. This is how many critter will be fighting in this battle.

Step 6: Hit submit. This is the final step, once you do this you will be taken back to the Arena and you should see your battle listed in the Unstarted Battles category. You can also choose to join this battle now if you choose to (this will cost 100 points)

In Battles, Part I, I talked about how to create a battle...that was boring...in this guide we will talk about how to actually FIGHT in a battle.

Step 1: Just like in Part I, we are going to go to the Arena section of the critter menu area.

Step 2: If you do not see any Unstarted Battles you will need to create on by following the steps in Part I of this guide. If there is already 1 or more that are unstarted you will pick one of them, and click the link that says 'Join'.

Step 3: (visual aid) Once In the battle screen you will see a few things. - -First is the chat window where you can have a chat conversation while you talk...this is straight foward and works pretty much like any instant message system.
-Second is the Duel window. This display Current Round Number, type of battle, date started, a graphics area to display animated battle scenes, and any bets that have been placed on the battle.
-Third comes the Contenders section which shows the current stats of all participants in the Battle and also is where you control your pets from.
-Fourth is the battle log which shows a text logs of each turn/round and what action/damage was done.

Step 4: (We will ignore all areas of the Battle Screen except the Contenders Area because all the others are for info only.) The first thing you will do is find you Pet, and in the lower section of your info will be a link that says 'Control'...click it.

Step 5: If it is your turn there will be a few options to make, you can either leave battle or attack. If you wish to leave you will just click the link that says forfeit battle. If you wish to fight you will select the option to attack from the first drop down box, and the critter you are attacking from the second drop down menu. Once you have done this hit the button next to the drop downs to perform the action you selected. Once this is done, the log will populate with the results, and it will be the next persons turn.

Step 6: Wait for opponent to take his turn, this could take a day or two depending on how ofter your opponent checks the site. It could also take 30 seconds if he/she is currently viewing the fight since all actions are automatically updated on the screen thanks to AJAX technology.

Step 7: Repeat steps 5 and 6 until either you die, kill the other persons critter, or decide to forfeit the match. If you decide to forfeit...you will do so during your turn in step 5. Congratz, you now know how to BATTLE!

Some info for you:
-If you reach 0 health, your pet WILL die, and you won't beable to use or care for it any more unless you pay the 1500 point resurrection fee from the graveyard.
-You will earn experience after each attack, this is based on your level versus the opponents level on how much you will actually receive. If you get 100% exp, you will gain a new level.

Casino

If you are short on points and willing to take chance to get some more you can go to the casino and gamble on current battles.

Step 1: Go to the casino.

Step 2: Buy a betting slip. This is a link to the lower left of the 'Gambling Slips' Category.

Step 3: Choose a battle. You will be able to pick a battle from the drop down list. You can't bet on battles you are taking part in.

Step 4: Choose your pick. You can now choose a critter from the active participants drop down. As long as all the contender slots are full you can bet on a battle regardless of what round the battle is in.

Step 5: Wait...now you just have to wait for the battle to end and hope you were right about the pick.

Step 6: End of Battle: Once a battle is over you will need to go back to the casino. If you made the wrong pick, you will see no active tickets for you, your points are gone so go to your room and have yourself a nice cry. But if you were right, you can claim your ticket (it's a little link to the right that says 'Claim Slip'...go figure...) Depending on the odds that were shown for the critter you picked you will get back a certain multiple of your money. Minus Tax.

Stealing critter and items

Stealing Items:

Step 1: The Profile
Go to the victim's public profile. You can do that by clicking the person's name on one of his/her posts and on the drop down menu clicking View Public Profile, by clicking the person's name on a menu on the site or even by doing a search on the Advanced Search menu.

Step 2: Stealing
After you see the victim's profile, go down to My Itemz Inventory (the last window on the left). There you'll see the person's items and the last option to the right is Steal. Click there and press Ok.

Step 3: The Success Check or Oh, The Drama
After you agree to steal the item you'll have a success check. The success rate for stealing is 50%. Should you manage to steal the item, it'll be relocated to your own inventory. If you fail, in addition to not getting the item you'll also lose 10% of your points and 5000 reputation points.

Stealing critter:

Step 1: Locate the Pet
First off you'll have to find the pet you want to steal. You can do that by clicking it on one of the owner's posts, through the menus around the site or via Public Profile (check Step 1 from Stealing Items).

Step 2: Stealing
After you see the pet you want to steal, go to the right bottom of the Pet Status. There you'll see the Steal buttom. Just click it and press Ok.

Step 3: Praying (just figure of speech)
The same rate of stealing items is applied (50% success). Should you manage to steal the pet, it'll be relocated to your own profile. If you fail, in addition to not getting the pet you'll also lose 10% of your points and 5000 reputation points.

Ps: To steal a pet, you must have at least one pet slot left.

Kennels

How to check in a Pet in the Kennels:

Step 1: Going to the Kennels
To enter a Pet in the Kennels you'll have to go there first. To do that youcan use the drop down critter Menu on every website page and then select Kennels or while in any Pet window select the Kennels on the top of the page.

Step 2: Entering the Pet
When you're in the Kennels screen, go to the right of the Pet List menu and click Enter Pet. Select the Pet you want to check in and choose Submit.

Step 3: Inside the Kennels
While your Pet is stabled, it will be fed and taken care of, so you don't have to worry in case you go on a trip or have to stay away from the computer for a somewhat long period.

Step 4: Claiming the Pet
To claim a Pet, go back to the Kennels menu and choose Remove. Then you'll have to pay the fee (100 points per day) in order to check your Pet out. If you don't have enough points to do that it will be stuck in there.

Spells

Picking, Buying, and Using Spells

First thing you need to do is go to the spells menu.

Once you are there you need to pick which spell(s) you want to purchase. Keep the following in mind while making your choice(s):

-Can you use it? Some spells have evil moral...if you prefer to have good moral you can't use an evil spell...

-Pick an element you like...this isn't required...but of course you will do this...right now the only difference between the elements is the color of the book

-check the damage and change of cast percent before you buy...because a spell that does 50% damage with a 90% chance to cast is much better than a spell that does 100% damage 20% of the time...

-make sure you have enough money...check the price

-lastly...spells level just like you do...if you are level 13 and only have a level 1 spell...you should upgrade, because if someone has a level 2 fiagra spell and you only have a level 1...your spell will only be half as powerful

Next you need to go ahead and purchase the spell buy click on the price to the far right of the spell. A popup will come up to confirm the purchase. Remember you can buy the spell multiple times in a row to get the higher levels of each spell, but you can get a level 14 spell if you are only level 13.

Ok, now you have a spell...and you want to use it!...go get in a battle or training arena and get ready to do some damage.

In order to use your spell you only have 1 requirement...you must be the same moral as the spell...evil=moral between -100 and -50, neutral is -49 to 49, and good is 50-100.

Now to use the spell you use the same dropdowns as you would to attack, and if you have the same moral as the spell it will show in the first drop down (action)...select the spell you wish to use. Then in the target dropdown pick your opponent...then hit attack.

You are done...you have just cast a spell...unless of course it didn't cast...which happens if that spell doesn't have a 100% chance to cast

Auction

Auctioning an item/pet

Step 1: The auction screen
To go to the auction screen, just select Auction at the critter drop-down menu at the navbar or from any other pet screen.

Step 2: Auctioning
At the bottom right of the auction window, click Auction. Fill in the boxes acording to your expectations (make sure to read the Instant part carefully) and choose submit. Remember there's a 15% tax on the final sale price.

Buying an item/pet from Auction

Step 1: The auction screen
To go to the auction screen, just select Auction at the critter drop-down menu at the navbar or from any other pet screen. There, choose either from Pet or Items auctions.

Step 2: Bidding
Choose the item/pet you want to bid at. Place a bid through the box. Note that if the item/pet has Instant Buy avaiable you may do so. If you don't, you'll have to wait until the auction time runs out and have the highest bid by then.

critter Death

Death of a critter

Let us begin with the ways a critter can die.
1. Hunger - If your critter stays at 100% hunger, it will slowly lose health per day. If it health reaches 0, your critter will die.

2. Battles - During a Battle, your critter will die if it's health reaches 0 (so quit before you die )

3. Training - During training your critter can die in the same manner as mentioned above in a Battle

4. Termination Clinic - You can pay to have your critter 'put to sleep'. This costs 600 points. (why would you do this?...you can only have 2 critter at a time...so if you want a new one...you will have to either do this to one of your critter, or kill it off by fighting [fighting is cheaper...])

So, as you can see, there are a few ways to have a critter die. Make sure when you are battling and training that you are watching the health of your critter the entire time. If you don't want your critter to die in battle, make sure you quit when you see that his health is lower than what you are normally getting hit for. (also note, certain magic skills used against your critter can kill your critter quickly...so be wary of those)

What do you do if your critter is dead? Well here you have 3 options:
1. Who cares - Leave it alone and make a new one now, it wasn't a good critter anyway. Losers are meant to die right?

2. Memorial - For a fee you can get a gravestone for your deceased critter. You will get a gravestone that has the life time of your critter (born-died) and can also write a few words to put on the gravestone if you want.

3. Resurrection - For a large fee (1500 points) you can bring your critter back to life. The pet will be resurrected with the same stats it had when it died and no hunger and full health.

Please note that not all parts of this guide may be 100% all of the time, due to the evolving status of the critters feature and due to various improvements made, although, if you do spot something, replying to the thread and highlighting the point will help us keep on top of it.
