he got an 8 month ban and £50,000 fine, who thinks this is a fair punishment?
i think 8 months is a fair ban considerin it could have been 2 years and £50,000 aint gonna make a hell of alot of difference to him, i dont think england will suffer with the likes of john terry, woodgate and southgate all good replacements |

It's pathetic, they're just making an example out of Rio, just because he's a famous player for a famous club which means that people will take notice of him rather than some crappy City player who does the same thing but gets away with just a two grand fine, where Rio gets £50k and an eight month ban!? Didn't he even try to take that test the same day when he realised he forgot? It's like he's getting an extra punishment for being someone who people will take notice of and be interested in their "crime". Just because of one silly mistake. Bloody pathetic, the F.A.

me finds out reason for this is because he lied, he had his mobile phone turned off, said he called his doctor which he didnt, said he was on his way caught in traffic, which he wasnt. Then admited in court that he was shopping and moveing houseand couldnt leave removals alone to go take test.
silly idiot |

i was actually quite suprised myself. thought man u would sort it so he just got the fine.
but u do realise he wont start the ban for ages, they will contest the decision and it'll run on for months. stepping away from this case for a moment, the rules should be changed. if a player does something like that it should be a 2+ year ban, u are told 5 MINUTES before the drugs test that you are going to have 1, how do u just forget?!?! thats not forgetting, thats a druggy. and anyone who tests positive should be banned for an even lengthier time. thats something for the future Fudge/Nitro, im not going to post my opinion on this specific case because i know i'll get the same crap from u both, and i cba with it. |

I don't understand why the ban is so long, or why he could have gotten two years. Stam and other guilty parties only got 6 months, so why ban someone who still got round to taking the test for even longer :S. Imo he deserved a ban, but no way longer than 6 months (which players found guilty of having performance enhancing drugs) and a heavy fine instead. My only arguement is why the city player got less. There's no excuse for what Rio did, he can't really be defended. Although I've also heard that the officials told him before the game and he wasn't followed after. Meh... I can't be bothered to stick up for him, 'dopey' **** ![]() |
