If you like less-intense SciFi, try Spider Robinson's Callahan stories: "Lady Slings the Booze" etc.
If you're up for a 9-volume adventure in convoluted alien politics, read CJ Cherryh's Foreigner series. Similar but shorter is her Chanur series, starting with "The Pride of Chanur". A more straight-forward space-opera would be Elizabeth Moon's Ky Vatta series, or her other one that I can't remember... Heris Serrano - that's it! I just read Spin State, but that was very intense and confusing - good though. I'm not into Fantasy, so no suggestions there. Last edited by Laz; 12-03-2008 at 15:34. Reason: acid flashback |

Currently reading Trudi Canavan - Last of the Wilds, it's book 2 of the "Age of the Five" trilogy. The writing style kinda reminds me a little of Tolkien, in that it kinda takes it's time with everything.
Canavan's first trilogy "The Black Magician" is also a good read. =] |

and you're right, they are a great read. Have just finished Robin Hobbs Shaman's Crossing and starting Renegades Magic. Very similar to Trudi Canavan, and I hope you have all age of 5 the books, the ending is good Oh and she is to write another 3 books along the lines of The Black Magican trilogy Trudi Canavan :: About Trudi's Books ![]() Sounds good, spoken stories can be rather relaxing. Will have a look and try when the kids are in bed. Thanks. Last edited by Sash; 14-03-2008 at 13:15. Reason: dodgy link |

Feet of Clay - Terry Pratchett
I love the discworld series of books, when you get a '*' at the end of a sentence, and a footnote at the bottom of the page with a really funny joke in, the only books ever to make me burst out laughing, I like the way Death ALWAYS TALKS IN CAPS, The Hogfather has been adapted to TV and the first book in the series 'The Colour of Magic' will be on Sky tv over easter, with David Jason playing Rincewind - the most inept Wizard ever, I'm dying to see what 'the luggage' will look like! ( a little wooden chest that sprouts legs and follows him around, occasionally eating people!) Last edited by Mars; 14-03-2008 at 01:16. The Ogre Downstairs - Diana Wynne Jones
Tis a kids book, that I read when I was at school many years ago, which I loved to bits, which involves chemistry sets, nasty step fathers, flying children and many other great kiddies adventure type things. I recently picked it back up and started reading it again and it's just as good as I remembered it first time round. To me it's much more fun reading than some of these heavy adult books. |
