PS3: Price cut???? No Price Cut????

SCEE president David Reeves has told GamesIndustry.biz that the 60GB PlayStation 3 will no longer be available in the US after stock sells out - which he predicts will occur by the end of the month.

Reeves was speaking at an E3 event to announce the introduction of a new PS3 bundle in Europe. When asked about possible criticisms over whether SCEE should have given consumers the option to pay a lower price, as SCEA has done, he replied, "Well, they're not really are they, because what the US are offering from the 1st of August is a USD 599 version with one game.

"All they're doing is taking their stock in trade that they've got at the moment of the 60GB model, marking the price down and it will all be gone by the end of July."

When asked to clarify if this will mean the end of the 60GB model, Reeves answered, "In America, yes."

SCEA announced a USD 100 price cut for PlayStation 3 earlier this week. A new 80GB model will come bundled with a copy of Motorstorm and will retail for USD 599.

Should have seen that one coming, i mean Sony was doing something right with their marketing we all should know something was not right.

We just felt Europe's pain. Sony has announced that they will not be cutting the price of the European PlayStation 3 and they will not be offering the 80GB PS3 at this time either. To compensate, Sony will offer a "starter pack" at the respective countries current price. For example, in England, the £425 PS3 will allegedly have an extra £115 of content included as well. No word yet on what that will be.

So, um, yeah. There's speculation of a second price cut in the States before the end of the year and Europe just can't get any love. Hey, at least for this they've got universal healthcare, good cheese, cheap wine ... we're just trying to find the silver lining in this. Sorry.

Ok so i wanted it to be £350 here but if stores keep their £399 and we get a couple of games, extra control pad then i think its a good deal as you need games and extra to work the thing.

Of course i see stores going back to £425 as their bundle deals they sell will be usless.
And even with loads of free stuff, i doesnt chance the fact people cant afford that price.

Note: MotorStorm and Resistance arnt even two player are they?

i dont see it happening myself but who knows...

resistance is 2 player co-op, motorstorm isnt sadly, both online.

i suppose the bundle aint bad if im getting games i would buy anyway with the ps3 in the end saving me money but i would of prefered a price cut.

i still dont see the 60 gig thing happening though as its been proven to sony that there just isnt a big enough market at the $599 pricepoint to stay competitive.

another scenario of course is that they clear out the 60 gig stock then cut the price of the 80 gig down to $499 and put up a 120 gig for $599 bundled with a game.

I guess its the same as the original version but I wouldn't put it past SONY to pull a stunt with this

what? its obviously the 60gb as thats the only version they have had in europe.

Ok im still really confused they have games online, but i still havnt seen a PS3 headset? How are you ment to play co-op or anything that requires teamwork online if there is no headset?

You can use any bluetooth headset.

One thing thats naffed me off is not being able to reply to 'text' messages while playing a game, Not without bluetooth/usb keyboard anyhow.

you can use ANY. they havent got an official one out yet but im sure one will come, they do have a deal with the warhawk game where if you but it on disk you get a headset with it (alternatively you can buy it for download for half the price)
