Sony President Ryoji Chubachi may be denying any Playstation 3 price cut, but that's not stopping the retail moles from saying that they're true.

The $100 price drop started yesterday when a Circuit City ad surfaced saying the PS3 was going to be selling for $499. Then GameDaily confirmed with "a merchandising manager at one of the world's biggest retailers" that the price drop was true.

Today we've received word from moles at both Best Buy and Target that they too have word of a price drop. Our Target mole reports that the retail chain's inventory tracking program is listing retail for the 60GB PS3 at $499.99. And a mole at Best Buy tells us they just received their upcoming ads and that they all list the PS3 price at $499.99 as well.

Great conspiracy? Lots of lying moles? A fact-spinning Sony president? Only time will tell.

E3 news slipped early me thinks.

No news on europe yet but it was relesed here months after so more waiting needed i think.

Still $100 is the way to go, maybe that will mean £100 off for us...........

I think they should increase the price of the consoles to decrease the price of the games .

£50 at most for us i would say, bring it down to £375. not too bad, under that fking £400 barrier anyway which makes it looks bad.

Most big name stores already put it at £399 if it went to £350 it would def hit my sweet spot.

Compared with the £279.99 price of the 360 i personally think the extra £70 for a blu-ray player, wi fi, HDMI and 40GB of extra HDD it a bargain.

I bet you a price drop will come for the 360 which will make me re think every thing.

yea great thing about ps3 price dropping is it in turn means the 360 drops its price in retaliation.

as im yet to get either (ps3 at xmas, 360 when they fix the RROD) ill be getting double saving, if they drop the 360 down to £199 or so then i may even ignore the RROD problems and just get it.

According to the official xbox magazine the European Elite will have most of the problems fixed which is why they think alot of people will upgrade by trading their Premium/Core in.

Apparently the new BenQ DVD drive will ensure that the Xbox runs much more quiet and there is strong rumblings that the European release of the Elite will see the introduction of a new heating system which runs more smooth and does its job.

Lets hope this is true and lets hope it works, if so i'll be trading in my Premium and paying a little bit extra for an Elite.

For me it was either going to be an Elite or a PS3.

But the Elite had to have the new smaller processor in it, fixing the over heating and noise issue and the PS3 had to have a price drop.

I was expecting the 360 to get its new processors months ago but no sign yet and the PS3 probebly wont get a UK drop for a while so its still waiting for me.

In a press release issued tonight, Sony has confirmed that the 60GB PlayStation 3 has received a $100 dollar price drop, making for a retail price of $499 and is effective as of now. Taking its place at the $599 dollar price point is a new (to America anyway) 80GB model. The new model, however, will not be available in stores until this August, though no specific date was mentioned. The 80GB model will also come packed with the off-road racer, Motorstorm.

This news comes after a weekend of drama, all stemming from a leaked Circuit City ad. While we originally suspected that the 80GB model, due to the ease of modification, would remain a Korean exclusive, Sony has given everyone the swerve. This early of a price drop comes as a shock, however, as it wasn't terribly long ago that Sony was telling folks to get a second job in order to afford one. We expect to hear more about how this price drop and new model plays into Sony's master plan this week at E3.

In the US, the PlayStation 3 spent 230 days at its initial price.

£300 and I might consider buying it when some half-decent games come out.

It would take a drop to £200 to make me buy it now. My PC is just too good, and it wasn't even expensive.
