I won't be buying one of them for a long long while then, at least till the price drops to a maximum of £200 for a start. Just the same as the 360 when it first came out, I think the price is rediculous and is simply taking advantage of all the gamers out there who are always desperate to stay right at the technical forefront of gaming progress, well that and the stupid people too.
It's a games console, a console made for gaming, you play games on it, it's a gaming machine, a machine you play games on, you know it's for playing games, you get what I mean yet... Yet to bump their prices they shove all kinds of other uses into it to somehow think they can justify the price tag they stick on it. Yet Nintendo and Wii managed to do just the same, but for a really good price... Yes I feel the same about the XBox 360 too, over priced and defeating the object of the term "games console". I'm ranting what probably seems like gibberish to some I know. But, for £425 I could further upgrade my PC allowing me to play the most powerful games available on the PC, why would I spend that kind of money on a console that has been slated and complained about in virtually every part of the world that people have seen and use it. then pay out extra for the peripherals, then pay out large sums of money again for all the games... I think i'll definately be settling for a Wii once I can afford one. |

Was only going to get a PS3 for FFXII but since that will be released on the PS2 I'll just pick up one of them for a couple of £££'s second hand on eBay.
Although if you have £425 to burn why not get one and slap it on eBay will get huge amounts of cash thrown at you as they will sell out, regardless of the price. |

Its probebly just me but i have been expecting this crazy high price for a long time, so when they put it at £425 it didnt seem that bad to me.
I still cant afford one though not for a long time.What i dont get is, if Sony let us have the 20gb model it would be £325 (even better if it was just £299) which would make it competitive with the premium 360 at £279. Why they cant see this i will never know, but they would have probebly won over Europe with little problem like this. |

THey dont want to release the chaeper version if they can help it simply because they make a much larger loss on the cost of the hardware selling 20GB versions I dont think I could find a 40Gb Hard drive that cost £100 these days maybe a 400Gb drive but not 40Gb so they are obviously not taking as large a financial hit with the premium machine.
Also they wont be as concerned about sales as just looking at your siggy numbers PS3 is already outselling XBOX360 sales without even releasing it to Europe and Autralaisia yet. |

but looking at it from the buisness point of view, thats £25 extra....say they sell all of those 300k units straight away(which is likely), thats £7.5mill extra they would of lost out on. still annoying though. anyway that system update apparently has things such as multitasking (maybe you can play music in the background , custom soundtracks perhaps?), dvd upscaling and download resuming etc...so quite a big update. anyway ill be getting one a month or two after launch, i got the money right now so its not a problem for me. cant wait to play motorstorm and resistance |

I'm pretty sure Sony will be heavily concerned about sales. There are 3 million units out there (Shipped!) (2m in the US, 1m in Japan) along with a further 1m units dedicated to Europe, clearly they're not selling all that well compared to their shipped figures. Sony have actually got their act together hardware production wise...however, in the face of diminishing interest after launch in both the US and Japan, its not looking rosy at all. The demand for the Wii however, is another story. Nintendo want a good slapping, the Wii still seems to be selling out very well. As far as the PS3 launch goes, not a cat in hells chance of me buying one, not a single game that interests me. And by the time Final Fantasy XIII comes around the PS3 may be super cheap if the current market status stays the same. |
