Ireland Gets PS3 Price Increase

"Surely he meant to type decrease" news now, with Sony's official website indicating that the European PS3 launch may arrive in Ireland with a somewhat higher price tag. According to a report on Gamesindustry.biz, the Irish section of "This is Living" lists a price of 629.99 Euros, an increase over the originally announced 599 Euros.

Now, before the internet's collective knee flies upward and concludes that the entirety of Europe will see a price increase, consider that residents of Ireland are the only ones faced with a higher price at this time (and the poor guys aren't even getting the 20GB model at launch). The United Kingdom's page still lists the original EUR 599 price. One theory is that the Irish page was merely the first to be updated, but it remains a theory until Sony officially announces a price increase.

That seems unlikely, if not entirely inconceivable given consumers' current attitude towards the PS3.

[Update: Sony has confirmed the higher price is for Ireland only, due to its higher VAT rate. The 60GB PS3 is still set at EUR 599 for the rest of Europe, GBP 425 for the UK.]

On another note, if the 60 gig version is £425 in the uk does that mean the 20 gig version is £325?

thats just crap on a very large spikey stick..... and i doubt we´ll see the 20gb version for awhile tbh, supplies r gonna be uber limited, so they´ll make us pay for the most expensive version naturally i would imagine

According to the Three Speech blog, folks in the UK—not just those in Ireland—looking for a 20GB flavored PlayStation 3 during the "launch window" will be out of luck. Apparently, Sony has listened to retailers who say that demand for the 60GB version will outstrip the lesser model.

So, UK, make sure you walk up to the counter with nothing less than 599 Euros on launch day (whenever that may be) or you'll leave empty handed. This is living, I suppose!

I very much doubt you will get a 20gb version because even in the states it is extremely rare as it forces you to buy the 60gb one.

We just got one today and tbh I am not as impressed as I would like. One thing which annoyed first moment was how heavy it was >.<. The Keyboard is crap it uses a standard phone key set which is annoying to say the least. The graphics on the other hand is pretty good, not as good as the 360 but it's good. Very solid is the system so it won't break easily. It's very slient. It has crashed once though since we had it which has upset me. Takes forever to update though. The interface of the PS3 is very simple so is easy to navigate though so that is a good thing. I don't like how when you download or update that you can't continue to play the PS3 unlike the 360. Not many games that are good that I was advise but Resistance is a must as it has an excellent storyline.
