Sony will definetly win this one in the end but as to your comment of the cost for a blue ray player at the moment you will pay only £20 less than a ps3 for one so you may as well buy a ps3.

However ... if you want to use your PC as a drive then you are looking at much more ingeneous solutions for less than £150.

this is the way forward really, in the end, all of these drives
will support both formats.

yes but there won't be any need for HD-DVD format as unless the rest of the film companies wants to cut their own throats and go exclusive HD-DVD they will go Blu-ray too as even Microsoft are looking at an external blu-ray drive.

Thats a good point, so i guess it comes down to which one is cheaper to produce?

I dunno if anything the porn industry is leading the way in digital distribution, i dont think they need to pick a format.

yeah I cant say i have noticed many porn companies producing HD content the cameras would be far too expensive for most of them.

I would imagine if they did it would be on digital tv or as said over the net as its definetly not like it was in the VHS/Betamax days of seperate shelves for porn movies - its only really mail order or sex shops you get that stuff in or ann summers etc.

different world nowadays then it was back then, why would you go out and buy hi def porn dvd's when you have the internet and digital distribution methods?

also porn is on both formats anyway at this moment, they will probably go to the side that eventually wins out and just stay neutral until it is decided.

the thing is there will be no real winner like there was with VHS as both formats use the same size media ( shiney disc ) and already they have drives that read both formats so its not going to be a great heartache for them to develop twin technology players. The only real battle will be which format gets the media and earns the money.
