PS3 region free?

so has any1 tried buying a game from america and tried it on their console?

i tried 2 foreign ps2 games and they did not work so was wondering if any1 had tried

ps2 games are a bit different to ps3 games the ps3 is according to sony region free for games however this may not extend to blu-ray movies.

Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 3 will not impose a region-coding scheme on games. That the consumer electronics giant was considering such a move was first signalled in November 2005, but it was made official policy this week by the company's head of games development

PS3 games are region free but none of the PS2 or 1 from a different region will work. Blu-ray is region locked along with all other DVDs you might try. =/

It's not the console its self that's region free but rather the games.

Where PS3 games can be region free that doesn't mean they all will be, developers can still choose to make their games region locked (sucks for us)

PS2 games will be region locked.
DVD as you know is region locked.

A colleague of mine mentioned that not all Blue-Ray movies are region locked, however i've not bothered looking into this as of yet due to not having a PS3 yet.

Put simply. A PS3 game is region free if the developers decide to put every single audio and text language on 1 disc, instead of making "Italian version" and "French version".

If you know that a certain game has multiple languages on, then chances are, its gonna be region free.

But this begs the question why the hell does it matter? If you were to import, say, Resistance Fall of Man from Japan, it would be EXACTLY the same disc. The only thing different would be the packaging, catch my drift?

it only matter cos they want to milk as much money as possible,
pricing it higher in some parts of the world where they think suckers will pay more than other parts.
