Not sure if this is the right place for this but I'm sure the mods will set me to rights.
If such a thing were possible, would you be opposed to a United World/Earth? I'm talking about removing the idea of countries and boundaries and having uniform systems such as a single currency and language. In time would people identify themselves as part of the Earth rather than a particular country and perhaps live together more harmoniously? As a side note: What would your World United flag look like? ![]() |

I don't honestly think it'd ever be possible, given that there will always be someone who'll have some reason for blowing themselves up on a crowded train or whatever. That and the Americans would lose their "dominant" world position, and we'd have to write off 3rd world debt (else the Earth would owe itself a shitload of cash) etc etc etc.
Anyway, I don't think I'd have any decent reason to oppose this... |

There is no motivation to do it unless we encounter some external force. If naughty aliens came and started shooting (as an example) brown men in the face, that should unite everyone. Sadly, it probably wouldn't because schizos in 3rd world countries would say it is Britain and America doing it, even when it isn't. Conversely if the aliens targeted highly populated areas like NY, Tokyo, London, Peking then brown men would say it is Allah (praise be upon him) shooting his big sandnigger gun.
Basically it can never happen while any more than 25% of each country are feeble ignorant religious folks. And that day is a long way off because some of the biggest countries like America and India totally love the fairytales. |

it'll probably happen one day after we've all screwed over the earth more than it is and when the west countries have no choice but to share what little is actually left with the people they stole shit from in the first place.
we're pretty much 'united' any ways, what happens in one rich country fucks over the rest of them. |

Every community over 100 people has to deal with cliques and groups and factions. Arbitrary boundaries are part of our need to define "home" and defend it. Left-over from our lizard brains.
But, to quote Lennon, imagine... Everyone would be in the same situation - same salaries, same taxes, same health care, no restrictions to food or oil. Of course, it'll only work if you do it my way. Your way sucks. Did you ever wonder how the various languages evolved? I mean how did they come up with Chinese, Latin, and Sandskit? |

I think something like that would be possible in two circumstances. 1. We establish colonies of many worlds and after so many years it would almost naturally evolve into "state" worlds 2. If intelligent life were found, and was suitably more advanced to lead to trade etc then i would see them as trading witha planet not an idividual country. We are already moving towards a united states of europe, then you got whatevers left of the soviet union countries and the east, so earth is pretty much carved up into "zones" as it is. But, continued fluctuations of influence and economics from state to state and region to region means this may be fairly difficult to achieve under standard capitalism. Of course if (when) i'm president of the world then i would sort all that out and things would be great ![]() Oh any flag flag would be a blue earth on a black background, or maybe the TF logo we used to have that looked like a planet |

The start of one world has already begun. The E.U.and the USA is leading the way in this but they want all the control if someone they can't talk to is forming there own group the west tries to stop it. European countries have stopped one Arab nation that was being formed from several middle eastern countries, the USSR was crushed etc.

Thankfully it's never going to happen, as populations grow and planetary resources dwindle, quite the opposite will happen, states will break down into factions and begin fighting for what little is left,
there's the dictators sitting on vast fortunes, oil states, Russia is mostly (russian)mafia controlled, i can't see them all sitting down one day and saying 'here you go everyone...' then there's africa, most of the nations there are in permanent conflict, and know no other way of life. |

Its an interesting concept but I have to echo a lot of responses that this will probably never happen. At least not as 'one planet, one rule' type of society. But more of what we have already and again as others have said, something else that is evolving.
The United States has one overall rule and yet has several smaller states, just as the United Kingdom, has One overall ruler, yet several individually run counties/councils. Or go a step up with the EU, and we have several states that upon agreement have rules bound to their own constitutional law, above the rule of the state itself. Ultimately, thats what will happen, We may have a 'group' of leaders for each individual member state-group. The African Nations, the Arab Nations, United States, Russia and former Russian states, Asia and of course the EU. So, we are already on the road of a 'United World' to some degree. But at the end of the day, because of personal Ego's, various 'players' in larger countries that do not want to lose grip of the power they hold, will sacrifice anything in order to hold onto that power. Look at Mugabi and the Burmese Government. South(or was it North?) Korea who pretty much cut themselves off from the outside world unless it suits them. Its these obstacles that have to be jumped before the 'Union' can really take a great stride forward in my opinion. There stands a good chance of something like this happening, possibly in our lifetime too. Because of how small the world has become with telecommunications such as the internet and phones, cultural barriers are broken down that where 100ft tall twenty or thirty years ago. Its a tall order, its possible - but at the end of the day, its dependant on various smaller countries playing their part. And I haven't even touched on out of world trade should that happen, or limited finite resources such as Oil, Gas and the like... Should we not develop alternative and sustainable alternatives to the finite resources, well - all of the above becomes obselete and indeed, we won't see a united earth but very much the opposite. A earth that is forged in conflict for resources no doubt. More than likely, in the short term politically, militarily however is an option I'd rather not consider in this day and age. Ugh, I hope my response is coherent, I think I rambled on a bit. I'll have a look tmw heh. |
