'Talking with News 24, FHM's sexiest South African woman Tanya van Graan will appear in both the upcoming third "Starship Troopers" film and a new Jean Claude Van Damme project.
The model confirmed that she'll begin shooting "Starship Troopers: Marauder" in Cape Town in a few weeks. The project, which began shooting recently at Table Mountain, sees Casper van Dien cast again as Johnny Rico. Graan says she plays "one of the seven troopers who must help to save the earth."
Shooting on the presently untitled Van Damme film begins in July in Cape Town. Graan's role is more of a cameo in that one.'
As one of the few people on the planet that actually found Starship Troopers 2 acceptable, just because it was part of that franchise, hearing this news makes me drool.
Good news that an original character will make a return too...
I thought the first film was really good. When the second one came out it didn't look that great and i never watched it. Finally i did get round to watching it and it did suck compared to the first. Now the 3rd one is on its way i'm pretty excited! The return of Casper Van Dien may actually make the 3rd film awesome
Starship troopers 2 was absolutely diabolical. After the very enjoyable original movie I expected a lot more and I can't believe that there's going to be a third movie. If anything deserves a new straight to DVD movie that is the terrific series "Space above and Beyond"!

The last episode was never shown on ITV!
I only saw it the other week, Its interesting that this is one of the few series that i consider will stand the test of time.
Ok the gfx and props are straight out of the 90's but the writing is fantastic, storeys that actually go somewhere and have a point, traditionally about the futility of war etc.. and the closest thing to Haldeman's Forever War.
I loved the first one, it was so well made, funny and cool at the same time, and they had like the two very opposite girls, which works better than just 1 model type girl.
Second one was crap and id imagine 3rd one will be pretty rubbishy too.

That is strange I've seen several people on the internet insisting they saw it on ITV but as far as I know it's never been on ITV. It aired on BBC2 back in 1997 and was repeated in 1998, I caught both showings.
I've never read that book myself but as you say it was a terrific show and extremely well written by Glenn Morgan and James Wong (both of X Files fame). Also like you said the show has stood the test of time extremely well. Okay the CGI looks dated as you would expect but it's still looks good providing some exciting space battles. thank God for DVDs!
Interestingly the show looked and felt extremely similar to Starship troopers which hit the cinemas AFTER Space Above and Beyond. Also while people stated they ripped-off Heinlins ST book Morgan and Wong's main influence was a book called the Red badge Of Courage.

Excuse me the second one wasn't crap unless you are a fag. That blonde chick who got naked was great.
Don't talk crap the second one was a gigantic stinky turd and just because it had some hot blonde chick who gets naked doesn't change the fact it's a crappy movie. Jeez Barb wire sucked but I suppose you rate that too cause she was naked loads of times in it!

You're the one talking crap.
Just because someone found something enjoyable in a film that you thought was rubbish that doesn't give you the right to go all Barry Norman on them.

Reason: Unaccetpable abuse.

several people including myself thought that the film was crap and a stain on the original movie. Anyway the reason I said you're talking crap was because you stated you are a fag if you think it's crap. For future reference perhaps you should lay off the insults and just say you disagree, perhaps stating what you liked about the film... Just an idea rather than getting people's backs up by calling them fags . (which BTW I think personal attacks are against forum rules)
The reason I don't like it is because it had a poor story, poor actors and was not entertaining in any redeeming way. This is the sort of movie that gives science-fiction a bad name.
Maybe you need to watch more quality science-fiction or TV/movies in general to be able to spot a weak movie from quality one.

Nah, can't be that, otherwise I'd have an honorary doctorate degree in sci-fi with my addictedness to the genre, yet I still find lots of sci-fi that others call weak perfectly watchable.
Yes, personal insults are against the rules, but recently i've been sitting back a bit and allowing discussions to take their natural course rather than intervening, unless specifically asked to do so by an offended member, it's better for the flow of the forum.
Note: However, chill it down a bit peeps, no need for insults, everyone is entitled to a constructive view of a film without being attacked for it. Don't make me dust off THE button.

I concur, but I think that's my/our flaw. I'll tolerate bad sci-fi but not bad cop dramas. Show me some exotic aliens and some slinky jumpsuits, and I'm happy. I'll watch Firefly, but can't stand Friends. And Firefly wasn't well loved by normal people.
Or "UFO" or "Space 1999", oh my, this list is getting ugly.

No you see, that's actually your flaw, thinking it's a flaw to have good taste in TV viewing.
Like me, I guess you have a good imagination, hence the not liking crappy cop shows and the likes, but enjoying escapism, imagination of space, fantasy and all things sci-fi... The way I look at it, if I wanted to see crappy dramas and cop shows all the time, i'd sit and stare out the window, cause it's right there happening, i watch shows to get away from grim reality, not to be depressed more by poorly acted TV versions of it.
I have to say mind, Space 1999 is starting to look a little dated now, but it still makes good viewing for me and far better viewing than what watching a 6 month old episode of EastEnders on UK Gold would, any day.
Give me the Lost In Space series or Tripods or even Land of The Giants over the reality, drama, quiz show pap around these days.
I watch pretty much all new sci-fi series even if I don't rate them very highly. Now while I'm maybe a sucker by sticking with the show's right through their entire runs. I will be critical of those shows I don't think make the grade or fell from grace.
I do also watch the cream of US drama because there just isn't enough sci-fi basically. So I think over the years I've come pretty good at spotting the crap, the mediocre, the good and the great... Particularly from a sci-fi point of view. Now like you guys I would rather some good escapism but I think over recent years we've been spoilt by some terrific sci-fi/fantasy TV shows that has just taking the genre to a brand new level. With shows like Babylon 5, Farscape, Buffy, Space above and Beyond and Firefly we have seen superbly written shows and I just get frustrated when other shows just don't live up to the standards set before.
Torchwood is an excellent example, in fact setting new lows in sci-fi in my honest opinion. I really don't know what they were thinking there?
Laz, I hate to break it to you but more normal people are discovering Firefly and loving it all the time. I think initially people were put off by the Cowboys in space angle and not giving the show a chance. Now with all the positive feedback and everybody's recommending it, everybody and their dog is a Firefly fan now!
I don't think UFO or Space 1999 are going to win any new fans though.

We'll have to agree to disagree about Torchwood, I really like that show, although, it's no where near as good as Dr Who and it's seriously really no where near the same class as Firefly, but you really don't want to get me started with Firefly...
I'm still furious that it was canned so early on and even more furious that it all had to be jammed into Serenity to tie up all the lose ends, resulting in the deaths of Wash and Shepherd and just as we were starting to see some amazing stuff from River aswell and we never got to find out for certain if Mal and Inar would ever get it together.
Saying that, they did the same to Threshold and Invasion, they left them with no conclusion at all and even BSG is being forced to cram everything into one last shorter series, to tie up all it's loose ends.
I just thank god they have at least had the common sense to guarentee Lost will run to it's natural conclusion. Although i'm still not completely sure if that i'd class Lost as Sci-Fi or not?
But anyway, getting back to Starship Troopers 3 for a mo... I honestly think, providing they have more than a 50p budget this time, unlike ST2, this should be a much better film, although, I still didn't find ST2 that bad myself, although it was clear it was set in a an old parking lot and that almost the entire budget must have been spent on those gratuitous boob shots.

omg i love al those old sci fi stuff, forbiden planet, blake 7, the tomorow people, quatermass, fantastic journey, when earth collides, journey to the bottom of the sea, the day the earth stood still, this island earth, lost in space, the time tunnel, there must be dozens more i cant remember the title, ....
it does seem a bit dated when its titled space 1999 and was sposed to be wel in the futre but wel now its long since 1999
I wonder if star trek will be like realy dated in 2500 wich os when its set.
