After the film based on the HALO video game series which was to be directed by Neill Blomkamp fell through, producer Peter Jackson went to Blomkamp and offered him $30 million to make whatever he wanted. The result was this film.

It seems to be driven by a lot of curiosity, might be worthy of a tuesday afternoon trip to the flicks to check it out ^^

Ye looks really good! Been a while since something the least bit original (ok its not hugely original) but its looks different and not many films have been shot in south africa!

I still havent seen this, is it any good. The trailers look pretty good though

It's not filmed in the usual manner, it's more like a documentary, the first 20 mins may as well be Panorama or something, it's full of 30 sec clips of ppl giving their account of events,
the action starts shortly after but it's still indispersed with various characters cutting in and yabbering documantary style,
despite it's low budget, the aliens etc are very realistic, and the cgi/real motion matching up is very well shot, this more than makes up for the annoying commentary bits,
the story is quite original, it's closely tied to South Africa's fairly recent apartheid / tribal
unrest history, and the film includes snippets of footage taken from this,

an original, watchable film, a low budget sci-fi fix, to fill in between blockbusters.
