has anyone else caught the few trailers that have been shown for the new show? its being called battlestar meets stargate in some quarters because of its attempt to go a bit shakeycam on people and add a bit more drama to the proceedings.
Hopefully it'll get a good start with Robert Carlyle as the lead actor when it airs in October.
For those not in the loop, captain clever finds a way of dialing the 9th chevron on the gate (previously used 7 in SG1 then 8 to get to other galaxies). A whole bunch of folk are brought togerther to go exploring and they get attacked and the only escape is to take the 9th chevron jump which takes them to the Destiny. A ship created by the Ancients traveling through the universe seeding star systems with StarGates.
They cant go home, the ship is falling apart and they are alone.
Does look pretty good actually, i quite liked SG1 but never watched it all and atlantis i didnt really get in to!
But this looks good! and Det robert was awesome in the beach!
My first impressions were that they rushed the story a bit to get to the ship, and there were too many flash backs, it felt a little disconnected. Hope the series picks up though.

I don't think they rushed that personally, I think it was done in a very modern and intelligent manner, I think a whole back story of pre-ship stuff will appear in future episodes, what I think they did was done very deliberately, to engage in a whole new audience of people who probably never watched any of the other SG series, or like me, had only ever seen the original movie (not from lack of wanting to watch the other series on my part though), they needed to move it at a pace to get you straight in the thick of things with the characters, as there are a lot of new characters and I feel they were putting importance on getting just a little bit of a feel for each character, rather than giving everything on one or two and leaving the rest unknown and leaving the viewer detached and forgetting stuff by the next episode.
I absolutely loved the episodes personally and can't wait for the next one to air.
Anyone else still watching SG:U ? I'm thoroughly enjoying it myself, although some of the episodes are a little slow, for me it is moving along nicely and I feel very involved with the characters, which I really like in TV shows. I'd like to see more planet jumping and alien life forms, but i'm sure in time we'll get more of that. My main gripe is Lou Diamond Phillips, his character really annoys the hell out of me, but I guess that's the intention.
I'd love to watch it - plan to catch up with it when I find some time . I always liked the drama elements of the other Stargates, so this should be a treat.
We watch it and love it. At first I really didnt like Rush, hes mean and arrogant but there is something very likeable about what he does. Im not too sure I can get on with these communication stones, its all very confusing.
I would like to see more planets and more alien interaction, but not too much that it turns in to SG's version of star trek voyager.
