Runes of MagicRunes of Magic is a fantasy MMORPG that is set in Taborea, a land undergoing the usual turmoil. Players can run story missions, take on quests, and train their skills. There are also dungeon sieges and, for the PvPers, solo and guild on guild battles. Meet mythical and dangerous creatures and solve the puzzle of the long perished kingdoms. Taborea was once a book in which the creation of a simple world of flora and fauna was supposed to be recorded, but today it is full of myths and legends. The continents are covered by baffling and cryptic traces of time long gone.
Email received today as I registered during closed beta for when the game was up and running. It looks pretty good, a bit wowish ? For a free to play game though I think it looks great
Dear Runes of Magic Player,
we have great news for you! The Open Beta Test of Runes of Magic - one of the most anticipated Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games - has just started.
If you have already downloaded the Runes of Magic Client a while ago it will update itself automatically when you start the program. It is recommended to uninstall the older versions of the game and download the current version from our Download Mirror Site if any problems occur:
Keep in mind that even though most of the content planned for the Open Beta Test is included to Runes of Magic already, there are still some features in development.
The ingame Item Shop is included also. Feel free to top-up your account and use the Itemshop to boost your character development and your progress in the game:
Soon the Webshop will be launched also. We will send you further information about it as soon as it is online.
The first Open Beta Ingame Event is ahead! Starting this Friday Christmas will come to the World of Taborea. Special Event costumes, quests and surprises will come along with the Event. And it comes with a raffle where players can send in homemade stuff for Runes of Magic to win special prices like a Reindeer. Hohoho!
I played it a bit, got my man to lvl 11 in both knight and warrior classes.
I saw a few (quite literally) old faces on the international server although they didn't say hi, I suppose anyone could call themselves teflon or their names so...
I haven't played any of these type of games for years so I'm not sure if it's shit compared to the new ones but it seemed alright to me. The real money stuff is mostly stupid boring stuff (so far) and only an utter arse would pay for a horse etc.
It has everything you would expect from a MMOG, I didn't test out grouping or guilds or any of that stuff but I think it's the type of game that would be hugely more fun if you played it with a couple of others rather than solo or á la téf.
The problem is there are heaps of servers so you would have to go on the same one obviously.
I went on one called Macantacht if anyone wants to group or anything.
The update process after you install it is a bit annoying, you have to click ok after every update and there are about 6. It takes about 20 minutes.
Post up if you do try it because I would play with someone but probably won't do very much more solo.
Haha, I got the email as well.
Tried to download but IE crashed about 5 mins in, and I got distracted so didn't bother going back to it. Is there a torrent download of it anywhere? I didn't realise they made you pay money for ingame items, isn't that a bit shit?
Loads of MMOG's are pay for items ingame type now but you dont pay for any monthly fee. You dont have to buy the items they are just made to make it a bit easier to play the game than not buying any.
Its a good model if you can rely on the game being good enough for people to buy the extras.
