Karma Suggestion

Could you possibly have a look at the number of people required to karma before you can karma someone else.

Currently i believe its set at around 15 people, and i find that its often the same people who i want to karma, because i like their replies, sense of humour or what not. Anyway, ive just had all 4 or 5 posts i wanted to karma and not been able to, and it tends to be like this a lot for me. Maybe i dont vary my karma'ing enough and i do forget to do it quite often, but i do seem to struggle sometimes to find like 15 posts from different users, in order to give karma. I do often karma new people with a welcome, but i feel 15 is a little high given the sporadic use of TF by many members.

We had this before when sort of goth people rounded up on people with disproportionate amounts of karma and complained to Det. He was forced (in my opinion) to bring in the limit about spreading it around.
I agree that there aren't enough different posters to award karma in a natural way, I am unable to give karma to certain people because I gave them it about a year ago.

I should add that i would prefer the daily limit of giving out karma was reduced, if people were to misuse it or overly share it amongst a group of friends for example.

Even 2 karmas a day and a 5-10 person memory, would imo be better. I dont karma a huge amount, but i find im constantly restricted by the 15 person "memory" and find myself trying to find anything to karma, because i want to karma someone i gave it to like a month ago.

Once i've completed a couple of important upgrades to TF over the next day or 2, i'll look closely at the karma system and how it currently functions.

It isn't something that is easy to change though, as it has been open to abuse more than once in the past, but i'll see what can be done.

The karma system has been tweaked to make it fairer. Nobody has actually lost any karma that has been given to them, it's all still relevent to what it was, everyones total number has simply down by the same percentage to reflect the tweaks that's all.

However I will be watching the system and any abuse of it by anyone will result in the abusing user being reset to a karma level of 0, but hopefully that wont ever be necessary providing everyone treats and uses it fairly.

With mine though, i frequently just seem to be getting Karma from the same people. Like in my last ten things, i have 3 from one person, 2 from another, and 2 from another, bringing 7/10 from 3 people. I just hope things like this won't be construed as trying to cheat the system, i just get it off the same people coincidentaly

I wouldn't be after just trying to catch people out, or simply pick out scape goats. I have systems in place that give me detailed logs for pretty much everything on TF, to protect both TF and the community. But I also have the one thing that no amount of automated systems can provide and that is what I would call a good sense of judgement and if I was/am suspicious of anyone with the karma system or in any of TFs other features, I would do further manual checks to verify whether someone was playing unfair or not and if necessary would also consult the team on the matter.

With around 80 regular registered user on almost every day, I expect and understand that a certain amount of repeat karma will be given, it's pretty much unavoidable. However, what I would like to see everyone doing a lot more, is not just giving their favourite members karma, but actually using the system as it was always intended and that's by giving karma to posts that actually deserve it and not just because their friend made them giggle. I see a lot of great posts made by people who seem to slip under most peoples radars, yet these peoples karma levels never seem to budge, yet I also see a lot of posts made that are little more than spam, yet some of these people have trully over inflated karma levels. Fairness has to work from within the community and i'm sure these people who are normally floating around under the radar would like to feel appreciated too.

Karma should reflect the quality of peoples posts, not quantity and certainly not the users popularity within the community.

I try as much as i can to make my posts concise and relative, recently in serious discussion, but I just get overruled by the older members of TF, so there's not really much I can do in terms of being acknowledged, I just sort of get lucky

I'm not having a dig at you or anyone else with this, i'm just explaining the system and how it should work and how i'd like every member of the community to use it.

It's not about being a new member or an old member, it's about enjoying TF and the community and helping others to blend into the community, so it can grow and so we can have new ideas coming in, new topics to discuss and also new angles on old subjects. That's what TF started at and that's where it needs to get back to.

I know we all have different views and we don't all love each other like some tree hugging hippy commune, but TF and the community should be able to bridge these differences so we can all air our views together and rant against each other and have fun and the likes. That's something I can't do alone, no matter how hard I try, that's something the community has to be involved in and that means everyone doing the little things like using the karma system, fairly and properly.

It's a shame how there doesn't ever seem to be an influx of new members. There's someone new who goes beyond 50 posts once every month or so, it's just been the same load of people for the last 2-3 years i guess now. I know this has gone off-topic now, but will you be doing something to draw new members in anytime soon? Wow, that sounded really rude, despite the fact I was only meaning it as a question. Still, it stands, is there any sort of big plan to draw more people in?
