problems with this site?

ok I'm having problems getting pages to load when i come on here, mainly when i try to reply to anything it just hangs and times out many many times.
all other sites i go on are fine and theres nowt wrong with my net, even while I'm typing this the loading bar is only a half way across ><
so this may not even post lol

so is it just me or is there a prob?

Harv mentioned similar problems to me a while ago, not sure if he is still having the same issues or not.

I can not replicate the issue though, i've tried absolutely everything to replicate it and can't.

My instant thought is that it is possibly something to do with the adverts, but you've said it is happening mainly when you try to post, if it was the adverts surely it would be hitting you on every single page of TF on every single page load?

Are you up to date with your Java version? TF does use quite a lot of scripting, so if your out of date with your java version it could possibly cause the odd issue.

It could possibly have something to do with your computers configuration, some similarity you possibly share to that of Harvs configuration, but not knowing your computers exact setup or Harvs, it's hard to tell.

Are you using some special popup stopper or anything that could interfere with page loading?

Which browser are you using? What speed internet connection you got?

To get to the bottom of this I feel I may have to do a lot more investigating, because as said, in both Firefox and IE, TF runs extremely smoothly and quickly for me and I get no such slow down, hanging, or timing out issues.

Have you checked your ISP to see if there is any connectivity issues? TF is mainly based in Germany, so if there is a problem connecting to a German ISP, that could cause issues?

Could you do a ping and tracert to TF and PM them to me please.

Is anyone else having a similar issue to this? If so, please provide as much possible information as you can about exactly why when and how it has/is happening.

hmmm this rings a bell, I'm sure i canceled an update for this a while ago, where would i got to update??

It may not be that, but having the latest version of Java would undoubtedly make many things run smoother, as AJAX coding is evolving all the time and is java based.

Not sure what version your running, but that would provide the latest versions there.

At the same time, I would say run all your virus scanners and adaware type tools, as some adverts can trigger spyware that may be lurking on your computer. Not really relevent to this problem, but when I get issues, I normally give my machine the full works just in case, the whole machine normally performs better afterwards.

i don't use a pc at work.


edit: with regards to spyware, i use spybot SND and just lately its come back as clean, now i have never had it clean for that long ever, even if i just get a few bugs.
now maybe theres something wrong with my spybot?
getting another one now and gonna try that.

I really don't know what to suggest in honesty. I can't replicate the issue, so don't know how to fix the problem, as for me the problem isn't there.

A few possible other suggestions:

1. Check security and browsing settings. Maybe one of the following advertising companies is being blacked by your system for Total Format: Tradedoubler, Valueclick, Fastclick, Adconion, Admart, Affiliate Windows, Kontera

2. Clear your temp internet cache and do a system cleanup, maybe there is some old page from TF cached or something that could be causing the issue.

3. Ask Harv what tool he uses that he keeps telling me exactly what bit of the page is taking too long to load and maybe try it.

4. Check the windows update page and make sure your using the latest version of IE with the relevent patches.

5. Start a log of which pages are freezing and which adverts are displaying at that time, maybe there is a rogue advert again, that i'm perhaps not getting at my location.

6. Logout of Total Format, close all browser windows, then load a new window and log back in.

7. Try installing Firefox and see if TF still has the same issues for you using that browser (just for testing purposes).

8. Go into your UserCP options and turn the chatbox off and test to see if that makes any difference. (shouldn't though as it's not on posting pages)

If none of the above helps or any of the other advice i've given, then i'm seriously stuck, as those things have fixed virtually every problem TF has ever had.

At the same time, I will do various checks at this end, such as checking the server error logs, checking the forum and site files for code errors, check the forum templates for java script errors and the likes, to see if I can spot anything at all from this end that could be causing your issue.

I'm sure the issue is something minor that is just a case of needing us deducing what it is, then it can be corrected.

Regarding spyware, I use Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware SE Personal and between them so far they have caught and killed absolutely everything that has ever tried to attack my machine, well, that McCaffe Suite hasn't already intercepted anyway.

hmmm looks like my spybot was faulty ><

installed ad-aware and it found some 280 bits of shiz + 2 critical bits

bit the relevant clean up and blam all working now.

I'd still do the rest of the bits on the list anyway matey, may make your machine run a little smoother.

Hopefully we've got to the bottom of this one and can put it to bed now.
