Battlefield 2 - The greatest online FPS of all time. But who plays it?
I cannot stress enough just how good this game is.
It is exactly what every game has trying to achive, but never quite done it till now. Full blown war.
Words cannot express just how exciting this game is, theres nothing like being with your squad , advancing on a base on your own, unsupported by any other squad. And take it on foot. Then have the agonising waiting period, where you wait for the flag to turn white, then to your own sides colours.
Youl be lay on your stomach, and then you will see a chopper hover over the base, looking for you. Then see it be taken down by a jet at low altutide, as it swoops down over the base, with a deafening roar.
Then an enemy squad realises what your doing, they advance on the base. Bullets are hitting the metal door behind you and the sand bags infront. The whole base bursts into action before your eyes, a far cry from the abadoned state you arrived at.
Your commander drops artillary over the enemys position and screams to you over the mic to "get some ****ing cover!"
The hillside explodes, the enemy is dead. You thank the commander, find some transport and move on to the next base.

I so have got to get this game. My cousins, and brother play this game and are nuts about it. They're on R.I.P clan.
Is there a free download trial or is it a standalone non fee paying game type thingy?
On another note, thats the feeling I get from playing planetside, when theres a war on, its an awesome exprience, truly awesome, I share your excitement

You just buy the game and thats it, there is no monthly fee. Its just like a normal fps game, that just happens to be soley online.
I also played planetside, but I must say this is better. It just gives countless awsome moments.
It features 1 of the better outdoor maps, although the best maps, by a long shot, are the urban maps.
This is a major system hog. And Wont let u play unless you have a 5700 upwards nvidia or ati 9500 upwards, and even then it will look like a dogs dinner, thats gone crusty. Oh, and when I say it wont let u play, I mean it literally wont let you into the game
I reccomend a 2.5ghz minimum. 1gb seriously reccomended, but u can get away with 512, just.
This is the most awsome game of this year, by far.

Ive just watched a load of ingame vids and I have to buy this game tomorrow morning when pc world opens. I loved battlefield 1942, but this one looks awesome.
Youve deffo sold that to me, Tagred will be online tomorrow
Re: Battlefield 2 - The greatest online FPS of all time. But who plays it?
I play it but my pc is struggling, anytime theres more than 2 tanks on the screen it goes to overload so I think I need more memory on it. It's an excellent game anyway, look out for Osiris
god its such a ***** to rank up after lancing corp
Just be a commander like me. It dosent really phase me, and I usually bark orders at people twice my age lol. But youve gotta know how to actually be a commander, its not as simple as placing UAV and sending in artillary, oh no. You have to get your squads to move to where you want, use the spotting system to spot lone flag capturers in your own bases.

Just some info for brand new players and potential future players.
For greater performance, turn down Geometry to low. You cannot notice a difference, but because the BF2 engine smooths the ground as you come close to it, having geomtry on high detail makes your computer work very, very hard.
Also, get yourself the All Seeing eye. http://gamesdomain.yahoo.com/ase/register its a server browser. I tell you to get this because the ingame server browser, is a disaster (its gamespy, what you expect?). Its slow, and crashes often.
Also, go to your bf2 folder, go to mods, bf2. In there rename movies to moviess. This will disable the movies, which not only gives you faster loading times, but also stop a whole catalog of potential crashes. For instance, i couldent access my video card options without it crashing, as soon as i disabled videos it was ok.
Also make sure you play on ranked servers as those are the only servers that record your stats.

Nah CS isent. Its the most played, and ive played it for years. But Battlefield 2 is just so much more exciting. It really is un-rivaled, even by the mighty CS and CSS.
Statistically, Counter Strike is played more, but its been out 6 years longer lets remember.
But just on the amount of heart pounding, adreneline filled moments, BF2 is just un-rivaled. Its just MORE FUN than CS.
I've added a screenshot section to the gallery for the game. If you could be so kind on your travels to take a few screenies and add them to that section, it would be really appreciated and would help others to see what the game is like.
If you could get enough players together to justify a TF league and server, how would we go about doing it and would it cost much to do and would it be worth while doing?

Exactly. Dominated for six years, and is still the most played FPS. Noone can argue it isn't the greatest. Lets see if BF2 is still played in six years time, let alone whether its the most popular.

Hmmm, a TF server would be AWSOME. Obviously I would have to be ranked, cus none ranked servers are generally empty, and I avoid playing on unranked servers anyway.
So ive looked at www.multiplay.co.uk which arguably have the best UK servers around. And for a 64 man server, ranked, debranded its "Equivalent Monthly: £144.90" and the minimum contract you can do is 3 months.
branded would cost 139. a month. but that has Multiplay.co.uk :: before the server name (although that isent neccesarily a bad thing, as it is a sign of quality)
If you were looking to get a server, I would certainly go for a multiplay server. And a 64 man IF you can afford. There are alot of 32 man servers around, 1600ish ranked. As appose to 350ish 64 man servers, ranked. So there is less competition for 64 man servers, so more people will join.
Not only that but what you have to understand is all maps come in 3 sizes, 16, 32 and 64. They are already scaled to size to suit how many people are playing. And it really is different, person to person who likes what map sizes. I prefer bigger cus my pc can support it, and also theres more action.
Nobody plays 16 man servers cus the maps are really small and its generally not as enjoyable as the bigger maps.
TotalFormat.com :: 64 Man Ranked VOIP
(VOIP is the built in mic communications system, which I assume is avaliable to every1 but I think it dosent go on the lesser, private run servers cus they cant stomach the bandwidth or cpu usage.)

erm, I cant upload to that. Cus my images are 120 KB (122,880 bytes) 150kb ish also.
I reccomend setting the limit to 200kb or I cant upload mine, and since I dont have any photo editing software after my format, I cannot edit them so they are smaller.
Re: Battlefield 2 - The greatest online FPS of all time. But who plays it?
While Im at it, the wallpapers system is a bit screwed up aswel. You click here for larger image, which opens up another window, but I cannot right click to set it as my wallpaper. and the [img] code you provide is for the small one. So the whole wallpaper section is totally pointless...

You have to get to registered lvl 1, which is 50 posts and 14 days member before your gallery cap is taken off.
Yer, there is a bit of an issue with the gallery regarding the size of images, i'm working on a fix for that with the developer, but like most of them, they are too slow to catch a cold. So we could end up waiting for eons. Although, when you look at a big image, you can use the little icons which show up in the corner to save the image, so it doesn't actually stop you from saving to computer, well not when you use IE anyway.

Btw, is the chance of a TF server a real possibility at some time in the future?
I assume u saw my post on server pricing. Also, when you say a TF league.. u mean some sort of TF run clan competition?
