Kingdom Hearts 3 Wii Bound?

So now there’s a rumor floating around that Square-Enix is working on Kingdom Hearts 3 for the Wii. Here’s my take.

Square-Enix has jumped on the Wii bandwagon and does have a healthy relationship with Nintendo as of recent years. With both of their largest properties, Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, being brought to the Wii this year and both with multiple titles on the Nintendo DS and Gameboy systems, why not bring what is probably their third largest property to the system as well? I know the game is not fully geared toward kids, but it also would make sense to put it on a less hardcore system that falls into the price range a kid could feasibly obtain.

Here’s an interesting quote from Nomura about future Kingdom Hearts installments,”It’s difficult to explain it. I’m thinking about how to talk about it [without giving things away], which means that there will be some twists to it. Up until now, the series followed along a [straight] time line, going from Kingdom Hearts to Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts II. But the idea I have right now doesn’t follow that flow,” Nomura told Famitsu.com. “However, as long as it inherits the Kingdom Hearts title, it needs to have some connection [to previous installments] in terms of storyline, so it won’t be too distant from the other titles. In any case, this is still at a conceptual phase, where I’m thinking about what I want to do.”

We won’t know what’s going on with this one until Tetsuya Nomura reveals some details, which he has stated will happen Mid-2007. The only thing he has said is that there are multiple Kingdom Hearts projects in the works at the moment, so maybe if we don’t get Kingdom Hearts 3, it seems likely that we’d get a spinoff, and that’d be cool too.

As much as i am all for Wii support i really wanted to see this in true next gen visuals. This series looked fantastic on PS2 and knowing Square-Enix is making this, their is no doubt it would be one of the best looking games on PS3/360.

Spin of series would work well though as the KH world and story is so big anything could be made.

Hmmm not sure how I feel about this. I am sure they could execute a good formula using the Wii-mote but I feel it should be PS3 exclusive much as Nomura has shown his loyalty by producing FF13 as an exclusive.

Xbox KH wouldn't feel right. Ever.

Roxas game hm? I was sad at the end of KH2 when Sora looked at Kairi and you see the image of Roxas and Naminé flash up because Nomura has built us to like them characters and then they just well...without spoiling the story...go.

But I was mostly sad because I knew KH was over again for another 2-3 years and I waited so so long for KH2.

In fact, I am having my KH craving again which means a completion of both games could be very very close and also playing through some of Nomura's other work as I am like that.

I play KH games too much but when KH3 does emerge then I truly truly hope that it will;

A) Follow the story with Sora, Riku and Kairi.

B) The return of Roxas and Naminé.

and

C) Introduce new worlds and not reuse Agrabah, Halloween Town etc. or put them in as well as tons more new worlds.

Kingdom Hearts is one of my top 10 favourite games out there so I hope they don't do spinoffs and the like because I am really and I mean really loving every second of the KH story and I think that following this story is the best path they could take to make the fanbase grow even more.

I mean PS3 still has some good aces if they keep at it, DMC4, MGS4, FF13, KH3 and not to mention that God of War 3 has been confirmed.

The Kingdom Hearts series deserves next-gen graphics and putting on the Wii, whilst being innovative, would be a step backwards for the series imo.

I am not sure how to feel about this. I loved each KH title admitedly not fully completely them, they still brought a lot of joy to me.

Though I was expecting the graphics and story to keep going and so the wii step in my opinion feels like a stepback. I was expecting it to move to ps3, maybe even xbox 360 (though it's highly unlikely).

Though in the other hand, I enjoy playing with the wii and the features and design appeals to me very much and so I would equally be excited for it to come to the wii. I would still buy and play and look forward to the many things it offers.

Whatever happens, I hope it lives up the KH name and produces a quality storyline ^^

It would make sense, they would at least test the water with a spin off first. I think Wii is probably the natural choice, the Wii is the best selling Next Gen console in Japan, its already started to show signs of repeating the sucess of the DS. In the US its the 2nd best selling Next Gen console (after the 360 and we all know Square wouldn't take KH there). With reports of the PS3 not selling out completely in the US and the numbers trailing behind both the Wii and the 360, along with the negative press, it would make sense that Square wouldn't wish to make a wrong step with such a costly series.

I think we'll see a spin off first, then providing the situation on the market stays the same, and the spin off is well recieved that KH3 will hit Wii. If not, probably not
