Gallows
The assent of Gallows has been both rapid and explosive. Formed in the town of Watford in early 2005, the quintets members cut their teeth playing in various lauded local punk/hardcore bands before coming together to create what Kerrang! have called the future of punk rock. With a live performance that, in terms of sheer energy and passion, out-strips any band you care to mention, the band Frank Carter (vocals), Steph Carter (guitars/vocals), Laurent Barnard (guitars/keys/vocals), Stuart Gili-Ross (bass) and Lee Barratt (drums) quickly built up a reputation as an incredible live act. By the close of 2006 Gallows were the most talked about band of the UK.
Gallows made their debut album, Orchestra of Wolves, on a minimal budget in September 2006 after signing to the Nottingham label In at the Deep Records. In March 2007, shortly after a SXSW gig in Austin, Gallows secured a record deal with Epitaph Records, which made plans to re-release the bands first album, with three bonus tracks, on North American soil that July.
2007 saw the band embark on a relentless touring schedule which included performances at South By Southwest festival, The Warped Tour, Download, Taste of Chaos and Reading, where Frank Carter got tattooed live onstage during the set.
Gallows also won the 2007 Kerrang award for Best British Newcomer and garnered their first UK top forty single with their take on The Ruts song Staring At The Rude Bois.
The band is currently recording their sophomore album, which will be released sometime early this year. As of yet, very little information has surfaced regarding the album, except for the fact that a total of six music videos will be made and that each of these will fit together to form a film, which Carter has written a screenplay for.
In a recently conducted interview for Rocksound magazine, Frank stated that the new album will be 49 minutes of aggressive music and that signing for a major label has not influenced the band to record a more commercial album; in fact it has resulted in the opposite.
