R.E.M. have confirmed details on their new album which will be called Accelerate. REM Accelerate will be their 14th studio album and is due for release on 1st April 2008 in North America and on 31st March 2008 in Europe.
REM confirmed the new album title in an interview for Q magazine, and their official website has clues to the album cover graphics.
REM have been working on the album all through 2007 and it will be produced by Jacknife Lee.
Lead singer Michael Stipe and the band might even tour the new album in 2008 a follow up to 2004’s Around The Sun.
Accelerate Track Listing has not been confirmed but the following tracks are likely to feature:
Mr Richards, I’m Gonna DJ, Until The Day Is Done, Staring Down The Barrel Of Middle Distance and Living Well Is The Best Revenge.
Michael Stipe is quoted in Q magazine that the ‘Accelerate’ album is:
“the fastest we’ve made in 20 years”. He added: “I think the songs on ‘Around The Sun’ are great, but in the process of recording we lost our focus as a band. Now, that focus is back. And it’s razor sharp.”
Several track titles were also confirmed: ‘Until The Day Is Done’, ‘Living Well Is The Best Revenge’, ‘Mr Richards’, ‘Staring Down The Barrel Of Middle Distance’ and ‘I’m Gonna DJ’.
