Television BT vision

We have just got BT vision and I must say I'm impressed. I love being able to record the soaps and the grand prix while we are away marshaling, you can record 2 things at the same time and watch another. Also its not pricey either if you want to upgrade to films or something, and the best thing is you aren't tied to a contract, you can just have a month of films for a fiver then not bother the month after. Oh and its hd so the picture is fantastic

For all the terrestrial freeview stuff it needs a roof arial though doesnt it?

I like the idea of it, but given weve got sky boxes on 2 tvs and cable tv in another 4 rooms, i dont think installing a roof arial for a few extra channels is overly worth it.

The point thou is you get a freeview HD ready box for free that you don't have to pay a penny more for if you don't want to and if you do its still only £29 for everything as opposed to £70 odd for sky and it auto up-scales to 1080i

I didn't pay no £75 squiddly quid for a sky+ box, got HD for £0 and can download movies too.

overall I have to say its really good kit and if i discount the need for sports channels ( i don't watch footy ) then for £19 ( same as cheapest sky option ) I get the full range of channels whilst still being able to not subscribe so if i like some of the 28 films in a month I can phone up and pay £5 to watch them all and not have to pay next month.

But its still mainly the fact i can now record 2 channels and watch a third in 1080i for free...

1080i is gay and sky do free boxes all the time on various deals.

sky are still bastards, but i dont think bt vision is any good either really, especially now bbc and ch4 broadcasts are usually free online anyway, and pretty much noone actually pays for movies, do they?

1080i is better than Sky HD boxes which only support 720 res and cost you £10 a month.

Would be nice to have 1080p but for free I'm not complaining

they actually support 720p as well but im still unsure what gives the best performance yet. I just set it to the top setting ( 1080i ) and agree HDi is crap compared to p

Sky hd boxes let you used 720p or upscaled 1080i too, which is presumably the same thing, interlaced 720p. Sky HD is balls though anyway.

What channels do you get in HD btw?

And my previous question, does it still require a roof aerial to get all the freeview channels?

Id was interested a while back, but it didnt really seem to do much other than being a recorder and allowing you freeview channels which you can get with a pikey freeview box anyway.

Not to mention that sky fucked up our package anyway and we get sky hd, sports, movies etc for a much cheaper package price

There are no official channels being broadcast in HD at the moment but BT say they will be free to view when they are released. But it upscales all the SD format. Basically I would say if you already have Sky+ and are not bothered about HD then stick with what you got but I got a free recorder that works in HD for anything we care to buy with no monthly fees. Didnt even have the £30 connection to pay as its free atm.

And i dont have to pay Sky £20+ a month for crap content anymore ( think its £75+ a month for everything ) and if we want to watch something off Sky one we can download it on demand....
