You cant really tell a whole lot from a trailer, but even for something which in the first place wasnt exactly a serious movie, it looks a bit tacky and slapsticky. Hopefully thats not true and Mr Ford can pull of some amusing cheesy quotes and stuff.
The part that worries me most is that theyve got that fking awful annoying kid from that other "remade badly for the sake of some cash movie"; Transformers, playing a lead role. I think out of all these shitty remakes, Rambo will be the only one that comes out with a good review from me, but we'll see. |

I mean for me, it'll only take some daft stunt with the whip and lots of baddies, or a room with snakes in, to have me amused. I think the idea with this type of film that people should note for themselves, is the same as it's always been and that is that like so many other action adventure movies, they are no brainers... Stop thinking so much about whether you'll enjoy it and whether it's historically perfect or oscar winning performance territory, take the brain out at the cinema entrance and just go in there and accept the movie for what it is.... Indiana Jones, played by Harrison Ford, in probably the last Indiana Jones movie that can physically have him as an actual active adventuring Indy, playing out some kind of adventure, looking for some treasure (the crystal skull you'd think) and encountering nasty bad things and people along the way. With some cheesy one liners, some amazing stunts, some silly gags, some scary moments and a bit of cgi to smooth it all over and make it work. Enjoy it for that, don't scrutinise it, there's no need. |

I know what you mean, but if i can try to convey what i mean without sounding like im anti any sequel or rehash...
I basically want them to use the same old formula, maybe with modern production or whatever. I dont want award winning acting or a deep and meaningful plot, what i want is some of the old formula that made it so good in the first place. I can watch the old indiana jones movies, with their rediculous anti nazi plots and stuff, elaborate traps and still enjoy them despite them being somewhat dated. I want them to be aimed more at those of us who grew up watching those movies than rehashed for the teen audience. I want his sidekick to be someone like that barely english speaking weirdo foreign kid in temple of doom i think it was, not some hollywood kid from transformers and decent sets, constantly being out of his depth and such. And there to be some woman for him to save, not some 90s feminist super power bitch who has to be shown as his equal to keep it PC. Im fairly openminded with what they do, its just often when modernising these older movies they make various parts of them cringeworthy. If that makes sense... |

I get what your saying and completely agree, but times have moved on and the entire movie industry is completely different now to what it was back then, so no matter how much we may pine for that old school style, it's not going to happen, so now we are left with the choices, either not bother watching movies as we know we'll be dissapointed, watch movies but moan about them, or just sit back and take whatever positives we can from them and try to ignore the negative points and modern crap that's been thrown into them.
Nothing gripes me more than bad CGI being over used in movies, I grew up on movies being full of stunts being performed by real people (stuff like you'd see in The Fall Guy) and plastic monsters and clever effects, these days it's basically all CGI and very few producers bother with all the hassle of using real stuff any more. The thing is though, is that there is nothing anyone can really do to stop it being this way as CGI is clearly a lot cheaper to do and I understand it is going to always be this way now, so besides the occasional rant when it gets to me, I now try not to think about that side of movies at all. I mean, one basic example is the giant rock rolling down behind them in temple of doom, that was an actual real sized ball (ok made of plastic) and the set was actually made up for them to run through and even though there was some basic camera trickery, I enjoyed it knowing how much effort had gone into doing that particular scene, these days that kind of scene would be made almost entirely from CGI. At the same time, a lot of the old none-PC type jokes and stuff from films back then would never be allowed these days, the industry has stupidly rigid rules and guidelines and it is in a way ruining the movie industry. Just imagine them trying to get something like Blazing Saddles out now. KKK, niggers, nazi's and all that stuff would be instantly banned, yet a movie with someone sawing their own foot off to try and escape from a nutter (aka Saw) is deemed as perfectly acceptable. |
