after sitting through band camp (the latest installment) i find myself seriously dissapointed. i mean it used to be funny, but this new one is appauling. the first 3 are really funny still to me.
Band camp seems little more than the same ideas thrown in with new actors and the same music to the 1st american pie (presumably as they already had permission to use the music).
The best part was probably Young stiffler with the oboe. so out of 2 hours i got 2 mins of pleasure.
Any one else find this? or have different opinions?
It went too far with the wedding one, unforunately its another franchise that doesn't really need an inventive story so they will milk it for all its worth just for more and more money, it happens with alot of those genre of films, they churn those films out by the hundreds now and the amount of American Pie clones you see advertising on TV now is bloody ridiculous, whatever happened to writing a proper story ?
I enjoyed Band Camp a lot more than American Pie 2 or 3, I thought it had a few pretty funny moments in it.
The big mystake I personally thought they made, which they tend to do over in Hollywood quite often, was to actually associate it with "the franchise", it would have been pretty decent if they had run it as it's own completely seperate entity.
It seems to me that for the most part, Hollywood has long since run out of good original idea's for films and now they just coin in on whatever keeps the companies afloat, which normally means churning out on mass, big fat steaming piles of poo. You just have to look at Brokenback Mountain to see that. "Hmmm, I know what could be new and inventive - 'gay cowboys' " said Hollywood, when in reality, most people don't want to know whether all those cowboys were wearing frilly knickers and suspenders and calling each other Mary. The whole idea of cowboys for all but a tiny minority, is to see tough unshaven unkempt roughneck types, aka John Wayne & Clint Eastwood, spitting thick brown gewwy tobakky residue onto dogs heads, killing injuns, bad guys, people with bad breath, anyone who thinks they are lucky, etc, for fun and then washing that all down with a good old dose of forcefully taking the woman of their fancy into a barn and giving her the hymlic maneouvre, or at least a version of, until she circums to these advances, which is instantly when she is pushed away and told to get dressed and leave. Of course this has to all be accompanied by a good solid performance by Sergio Leone, not some puffy boy band singing love songs.
some of my friends love Brokeback mountain.. of course they are all women.
i got invited to watch... gay **** films just arent for me though..
back to band camp, yes it would have been a good film if it wasnt trying to ride off the american pie franchise. HOWEVER, they made a mention to Alysson Hannigans character having a baby.... *could this be the insinuation to ANOTHER AP????*
Well I was only 13 when the first American Pie film was released so never got to see it till it was released on DVD some time later. Still a great film. The second one has to be the best IMO, was 15 when it was released and it was hilarious possibly one of the best teen films of the time. Then came the wedding which IMO was just an attempt at milking the concept, the jokes were not as funny and it seemed like the actors were just forcing out their roles to cash in on the big bucks they will have been paid to do it.
As for the newest installment, well after seeing the wedding I really couldnt bring myself to watch/buy it incase it took away more from the good memories of the first two films.
Hollywood always does this though, they get a concept that kind of works then do as many sequals to it as possible in an attempt to cash in and make money. Only some film franchises manage to do this effectivly (Star Wars, Star Treck, Die Hard, Batman, The Mummy etc) most others just fail. Whats worse with Hollywood is when they take an old classic (such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and do a remake, its like having some of your childhood memories ripped out and stamped upon.
LOL hard lines angel... . band camp is only bad because of the greatness of its predesessors, as det said, if it was made in its own right it would have been pretty good.

i feel the same way... hate the new version! i want the oompah loompah song back... the good one.... and i want it to be accurate to the book, not some ****ing Johnny Depp "im cute because i can play an idiot" remake!
Hell, most of his films are terrible anyway!!!! only one ive thought was any good was pirates of the carribean.. and even that was just the first one. he enraged me more by kissing keira knightley in the 2nd .
