anyone seen this?
i have just been to see it and oh my fugging god i dont think i have laughed so hard in my life.
its clearly not everyones cup of tea, so if you like borat then you will like this
SBC must have some balls, he said to a iraq terrorist that `your king osama looks like a dirty wizzard` and the guy kicked off lol
he goes up to an anti gay rally chained to his mate with dildos sticking out all over lol
i can see how it wouldnt go down in america cos like borat he gets them to say and do some things that could cause embarrasment.
so if you liked borat or SBC in general then i would recomend this film, its as funny as fook.
I kinda thought it would be bad when i saw the trailer and having seen some of the original bruno stuff he did back before he was famous, it was amusing but the scope of the character is too small...
AliG had plenty of aspects of chav type life to mock and Borat had the full scope of a character from an *essentially* make believe country, in the sense that he made up the entire culture. Both characters ran a fairly clever and original interview style of asking stupid questions and exposing many peoples predjudices and dodgy views for comic effect. Bruno on the otherhand is basically just a flamboyant homosexual, which meant that almost all the humour was limited to gay jokes and sexual deviant behaviour.
Also, in terms of settings - AliG did real interviews with real people mocking real life views then made his movie "Ali G in da house" which was entirely fictional, 2 very distinct applications of the character. Borat for the most part stuck to the reality part, making real people look stupid. Bruno's movie switched from real to staged randomly, so it was hard to know where you stood and the jokes didnt work very well from that imo, because the real bits were overshadowed by staged nonsense and it lost credibility.
To give it credit though it made me laugh a lot on a few scenes that were just totally OTT and crazy. His accent kept slipping into Borat and sometimes AliG too, which was pretty poor for someone supposedly mastering characters. The overall story was sucky and allover the place.
Overall it was pretty watchable but not as good as Borat or even the AliG movie, which is a shame because some of the non staged bits were proper insane - SBC was quoted saying that the Hunter guys chasing him was the most scarey moment in his life. I just felt like it didnt mesh and those good bits were upstaged by scenes that were clearly set up.
I like all three really, ok i agree bruno was a bit slap dash, but it was constantly funny for me and had me cringing and laughing at the same time.
It was shocking though some of the scenes, like the "gay converters" not just how they thought gay people needed fixing but the "second stage" one who said woman just moan and get on your nerves but you DO need them live a proper life, really shows how backward they are if they think all women are like that, or are they?
But one of my favourite bits was when he was being chased by the jews! So funny, and im amazed he didnt get shot when he was trying to get "kidnapped"...
while i pissed myself laughing when i saw Bruno, i dont think it was as comedically good as Borat. It felt more staged and was funny because it was embarrasing more than because others were making fools of themselves ala Borat.
him nearly getting nailed by that chair at Straight Daves Man Slammin Max Out was funny though. That certainly didnt look staged!
