The first in the new series of "Origins" X-men movies starts with thier most loved and biggest hero, Wolverine!
I'd like to start the with the previous three X-men films as a basis for what was expectedof his origin film. We know Logan has a very dark past, a lot of which Xavier warned him he would be better off not knowing,as he was used by stryker as some sort of weapon of evil.
Throughout the three original films we see him become very violet at times and even almost kills rogue after having a bad dream. So we would expect this film to be very violent and very very dark.
So the film, i'd like to point out its rated 12A, so that already implies there isnt going too much gore, or really nasty violence.
This was true throughout the film, we see Logan constantly slicing people to bits yet there isnt a drop of blood anywhere, not even on his blades! I know this might sound childish of me to see blood, but a little would of added to the realistic value (as much as X-Men can be) to the entire film.
The story was very weak, infact there wasnt much of a story at all, it was mainly mindless action, with fans mutant heros chucked in for good value, even though fans would resent the film for it. A lot of the action is so cheesy and been done so many times before, there is explosion everywhere, one I remember Logan is metres away from it, walking away looking cool and not even his hair got caught up in the wind from the blast!
We also see Logan find love and loose it, in a matter of 15 minutes, so needless to say it was pretty pointless. The entire film it cringeworthy with cheesy dialogue and pointless scenes and charactors.
There was hardly any point in Gambit being in it, though the actor wasnt bad, he doesnt serve much purpose other than taking Logan somewhere....
The special effects I thought were quite low budget, its so blatantly obvious when its blue screened and they dont look realistic at all, I didnt find this a problem in the last films.
Its a shame this film is so awful cause the cast werent so bad, Hugh Jackman kept up his standard though the poor script made him look like an idiot, Leiv made an EXCELLENT sabretooth but again the film let him down, even Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool wasnt that bad, but again he was in it for five minutes.
I really do hope they dont make a Magneto film as i love Ian Mckellar as him and would hope he will see sense not to bother after this diaster, but they might just found a younger actor to take up his role anyway...
I always found it funny cause the film was plagued with the illegal version leaked to the net which was "unfinished" and they said the final cut will brilliant, and it was so awful.
So basically avoid with a barge pole, you come out of there with a horrible taste in your mouth, i would wait till DVD if you wanna see it.
The leaked CGI version was more fun to watch and definitely more entertaining than the actual movie. Tons of consistency issues with the comic and tv series, the character is pretty awful. The movie itself is dull, the plot sucks, and even as a wolverine (character) fan, i didnt enjoy it much.
Its only worth watching if youve got nothing else to do.
Marvel need to grow a pair, and make the studios stop dicking around so badly with their
creations, it's really starting to drag their franchises down and ruin time honoured and well loved stories like this
The move was watchable, although the dialogue was watered down for 12 year olds,
it seemed to me like all the magic was reserved purely for the combat scenes, with the remainder done with apathy, and predictable 1 liners drawn from a hat,
the current trend of stupid endings needs to stop, they just add hugely to the disappointment,
I'd reserve this film for when you have visitors round, something nice to have on the screen
with the volume off.
