Views on The Escapist?

I just watched the Escapist (I know you should judge a book/DVD by its cover, but I did). I thought it looked like some sort of light-hearted Guy Richie-esque crime caper.

It just bored me. I turned it off after about forty-five long minutes. I was surprised it’s got a 7-ish rating on IMDB.com.

Can anyone else explain to me its appeal?

I'd agree, I thought the movie was pretty poor. It's the kind of thing that worries me about the Brittish movie industry, this is one of many of a particular film genre that just because we did a couple of decent films in that style, seems to be that we now are stuck in a routine of churning out clones of the same style, with each new release surpassing the previous in it's failure.

Why we can't churn more out in the style of Dog Soldiers, 28 Days Later, Creep and that kind of movie is beyond me, it's a style we are particularly good at in my opinion. Just without letting the level of quality drop any more obviously, as 28 Weeks Later was a lesser film than the first in the series and i've got no doubt that 28 Months later will struggle too, although i'm still serously looking forward to seeing it anyway.

Although I thought 28 Weeks Later was pretty good.

I thought the main problem with the Escapist was the "flash-forwards" - you kind of knew what and who was going to happen right from the opening couple of minutes.
