Default DivX / XviD DVD Player

I was wondering if anyone knows a decent but cheap DVD player that supports these formats. Ive looked about a bit and some £20 players claim to support it but then reviews say they dont work properly etc

I dont have a DVD player in my bedroom other than pc drive and would prefer just to watch dvds and also be able to play divx/xvids from my pc that i burn to cd. Or any other media that i may want to watch at a later date.

Its not that bad on the PC at all, but it would be cool if i could just encode anything i like to divx and burn to cd. Way cheaper than media centre alternatives imo.

i was looking too, my pc dvd drive wont do double layer aparently, so il let you know what i find.

it seems quite a hassle burning dvds, unles you particularly want to keep them permanently,
the burnt ones didnt seem very reliable so i gave up with them but that was ages ago.

Im also looking at media pcs, but I dont know how good a spec you need, blue ray might be nice, the standalone players are 200 quid for a reasonable make, but there are cheap ones, and some have HDD so you can record, but you can probably put to gether a cheap PC for 200 quid, but i dont know how wel a min spec pc would handle full hd, i downloaded a couple of full hd trailers etc to see how wel mine performs but i think the heavily compressed formats take to much processing power for my pc.

its a shame you cant just send the image in comressed form to the TV, over high speed usb or other serial link, as if they have internal digital receivers they have the necessary mpeg 2 decoder at least.

ive also seen small tvs with built in dvd drives incredibly cheap.

Oh well, how about you contact Tesco/ASDA/wuteva_el_cheaposhop and pretend to be a reporter for some dvd/tv/wotnot magazine/website and ask them to give you some el cheapo DVD-players for testing. Although you can't test them for long and find out if they are long-lasting but you can test if DivX/XviD works properly.

Remember that most of them won't play AC3 sound.
But I think the Philips DVP3260 is decent at about £40, and if you have a USB flash drive you can just use that instead of using up blank dvds.

That looks like a good idea, assuming it all works well n stuff. Would be much better using USB stick too.
