So anyway this month, as with most months, has been a month of random purchases.
This time round ive opted to expand and improve my console collection. Given that my year old 360 has stopped being able to eject cds a good 80% of the time now (as in you press eject, it grunts at you, then does nothing, you repeat 3 times and on the last try it fires the thing out at you.) Ive done the charitable thing and given it to my sister, and then bought a new one. Now i generally only keep consoles as glorified DVD players, but i do play the odd game, and as a result i tend to get pretty heafty use out of them all round really, so while ordering the new console i figured id pick up a cooler unit. Ive gone for the 360 Gamexpert Cooler King mod, which you just plug in the back and as well as providing even more video connectivity options, also, apparently surge protects and cools down your system. Anyhoos i was wondering, has anyone else got any experience of using these things. Does it really help with extending the functional life of the console, or have any of you heard of any horror stories, or good reasons why i shouldnt connect the thing up? Technical blurb and pic below....

There was problems with the Nyko cooler which was the one I had and it was making my 360 sound like a lawnmower after about 2 weeks use but I realised after that it was just the thing acting normally. Anyway I have heard the Nyko ones are a sure fire way to get the red ring of death because they suck out internal power and stop vital 360 functions, I personally don't use one as Microsoft have stated that the Xbox stays cool enough and lets be honest if you don't overuse it then its not a problem, my 360 has been fine though although many many people have had 360s broke since they bought the Nyko model and Microsoft do not repair 360s broken using the Nyko cooler becauses its not a licensed Microsoft product.
Not sure about the cooler king though, see if theres any reports on it online, might have fixed the problem now. |

if its got its own powersource and doesnt get it from the 360 itself like the nyko one does (e.g u plug it into the wall seperately from the 360) then it should be fine, the nyko one got its power from the 360 itself and this meant it stole power from vital systems in the 360 eventually leading to the red ring of death.
