Help! 360 Tech prob

I bought a xbox 360..like half an hour ago...and carefully assembled it like I do with all my electrical goods. Turned it on...It went through a online update which I accepted to.. Then it switched off turned back on..and the screen comes up with

"System Error. Contact Xbox support.
E71
www.xbox.com/support"

Nice Start :/.. Tried switching it off and that but it still comes up with the same error. Just my luck really. Can someone help?

LOL!!!! sorry mate... was it a brand new xbox? like from a shop? or 2nd hand?

im not sure with 360s but with normal xbox's it does that if you are running a chip with it, and try updating the software with a diff bios on... unfortunatly wrecking the system.

i suggest you contact xbox support.

1st hand from ****ty comet haha. Im ringing them now.. but im waiting for them to answer and have been for like 20mins :/

p.s Does the premium console come with a year free xbox live? cos i cant seem to find it

did you get the 3 lights of death on the front? that means a system error. anyway just take it back and get it replaced.

I've been told the premium system comes with 12 months of xbox live silver subscription...

... what's the diff between silver and gold subscriptions?

silver = chat with people/friends and get demos/trailers abit later then gold and no online play

gold = chat etc, get demos/trailers straight away and online play.

Sounds like you would be best off with the xbox support although i think you best sending an email or phoneing as i doubt this helps.

Does the 360 come with a start up disk or have anything on it that will restore the firmware to factory settings?

no wedgy, consonles generally dont... and its not a windows based pc, so there would be no need.

the problem that it happened after updating seems to be a communications fault, or an error patching which screwed up the OS on it. And not, as though before, about dodgy comet giving you a damaged bit of stock.

my cousin works for comet in huddersfield. they always send back . sackable offence if they supply knowingly defective goods! :O

id say that the OS is boned tbh... not got a 360, so couldnt tell you. id suggest looking into it at xbox scene forums, but theres no point being as it is brand new. just take it back and tell them you want a replacement. if it was over a year old, id say get it chipped, and put a new OS on it (i believe there is a dual boot feature on it, much like the norm xbox's, and the setup disk has the original f/w on )

every time my xbox goes, i can fix it myself... pity its not the same with my downgraded psp... ¬_¬. thinking of just updating it to v2.6 tbh. ¬_¬.

November has barely begun but Microsoft has seemingly already won the Screw-up of the Month award. Yesterday’s big Fall Dashboard Update does a lot of good things to your 360, like 1080p support and WMV streaming. And it does some bad things, like reducing a lot of Xbox 360s to 4kg paperweights.

As our Dutch friends at Fok! Games have discovered, there seems to be a fatal error in the latest update causing recently purchased or replaced Xbox 360s to die on their owners (translated and summarized for your reading pleasure):

When you do the following with your new Xbox 360 you will be getting a fatal and permanent “System Error”. That means you should not do this!

Boot the console.
Select the language.
Select “I am a member of Xbox Live”
Mandatory dashboard update will download and install.
The system will reboot and show the 360 logo.
You’ll get “System Error E71?.
When you get this error the 360 is dead and cannot be revived anymore: you will need to take it back to your store for replacement or contact Xbox Customer Support.

Everyone gets silver, gold is free with a new console for 3 months (or it might be 1 month I can't remember now) then £40 a year. You need gold to play online but all other benefits are free through Silver.

Of course, The couldnt possibly of ever done it because your cousin works there Must just be the other 257 stores that you dont have family working in that do it then. I guess the numerous times Comet have been fined for doing it they were actually innocent
