Hi
Just looking at Weggys sig where it's got the sales list of each console in each terrotory and the Xbox has done terrible in Japan. To me I can't see any justification for the lack of sales, maybe others can explain as my knowledge of the gaming industry isn't great, I know they love RPGs but what has PS3 got over Xbox 360? To me it just comes across as a pride thing, Sony and Nintendo are home boys whilst Microsoft is the big nasty American machine. Microsoft is relatively new to us all so why has it flopped in Japan? |

I dont think its that, they love a lot of american things out there, like the powerpuff girls and the whole western cowboy thing, loads!
Maybe they are just more loyal out there, and stick to companies they love and trusted for generations. MS are trying they best though, with loads of RPG's on the horizon maybe they will finally make a dent. |

They are a bit racist to be honest. Sony and Nintendo have been making games for a while, and it must hurt their pride to see this American company storm in and lay waste to them worldwide. |

Basically, Japanese like Japanese stuff.
From games to hardware, even to films. It's a unique culture. They like a lot of Westwern stuff too - look at the ipod - but where there's a choice to be made and one of them is an established Japanese name the result isn't a shocker. The thing is the 360 has the edge big style in games for Westerners but the Japs like a different kind of game. I'm not talking genres I mean the feel or tilt is just.... different. You know when you put a Japanese game in your PS3 that it's japanese from the music, the crazy character names (Solid Snake, Cloud, Big Boss.etc) and even the the script has that Japanese feel. That's what Xbox is missing in Japan. Maybe instead of doing Netflix for the US they should make an effort with Live over there but that's the other big difference. Gaming in Japan isn't massively online orientated, at least not in the same way Europe and the US are. It took Sony long enough to get on the online band wagon because the demand wasn't there in it's home market. So with Xbox Live not having the pull it does in the West, no Bluray drive or DVD upscaling, games aimed largely at the wrong culture... I think MS is taking a square peg / round hole approach. I don't think they'll do anything special over there this gen. Last edited by RocKtheCasbaH; 28-07-2008 at 09:49. |

I've got to be in agreement with that, by far the most sensible conclusion.
