360: 17.7+Millions sold + Halo & Mass Effect

Pretty nice year end for Microsoft. 8.1m copies of Halo 3 sold in just over 3 months, its crazy.

That's an astonishing amount of cash that must be exchanging hands.

Halo 3 must be one of the biggest selling games in X-Box history with figures like that.

Halo has a massive fanbase, and Mass Effect will probably have been lapped up as BioWare are a pretty good software company. Tbh, if I didn't already want a 360 then these figures would be plenty to entice me...

Unfortunately, I still can't afford any of this stuff.

Microsoft are also giving all xbox live customers a free live arcade game as an apology for the online service crashing over christmas and new year.

Ive never been much of a console person and if i had an xbox id probably use it as a media centre like my bro in law does, but are the games that good on them now? Does the 360 still hold up against the other consoles especially with wii's extensive advertising?

Obvioulsy the numbers speak for themselves but is that a consequence of Microsoft getting in early?

The kids love them some Halo.

No way that series is going ot be laid totally to rest, an FPS based on that universe will hit 2009/2010.

Unless of course MS has stopped liking money?

360 seems to show no signs of slowing down no matter what the competition is doing. At least in over all sales figures. Japan and most European countries are as warm to it as cats to water, but their lack of sales seem to get shoved aside by the UK and USA figures.

I thought there was something like HALO wars, a top down / 3D Isometric C&C inspired game later this year?

Yeah thats coming out this year but its just an RTS with the Halo name on it really.

The FPS is what people want and their will be another game in some shape or form.

I have always been a Sony fanboy but got a 360 and a wii this time round. The 360 is the best one by far at the moment, the wii is a stinking pile of piss and the ps3 is probably the most powerful one but gameswise and onlineness it needs to catch up.

Tbh, I've never considered Nintendo as a direct competitor to Sony and MS in the console market as imho they don't target the same consumer base. Sony and MS seem to be pushing the graphics boundaries and targeting the more mature audience whereas Nintendo has always gone more for innovative and slightly more wacky console design and games titles.

In essence, I usually draw up Nintendo = good quick fun, MS/Sony = in depth, challenging gameplay.
