Molly is top dog -- and cat -- when it comes to Britons' favourite name for their pet.
According to Direct Line, Molly was the number one choice of owners who registered their cats and dogs for their pet insurance policies.
Old favourites Charlie and Tigger were the next most popular cats' names with Max and Charlie making up the doggy top three, the insurer said.
However, people have also been influenced by celebrities.
In the last two years, there has been a 25 percent rise in the number of pets named after England soccer star Wayne Rooney and a 46 percent increase in the number inspired by pop singer Kylie Minogue.
The names seeing the biggest increases were Ozzy for a cat and Rocky for a dog, while more unusual monikers included Gandalf, Harry Potter and a moggy called 50 Cent.
I dont think id name a pet molly, sounds too close to polly, would be confusing if it was a parrot.
my cat is called polly :X she used to climb up onto my shoulder when she was a baby,
and sit there for hours, so well named, i think,
she was so small she could fit in the palm of my hand, and she used to fall asleep
in my dressing gown pocket :S

Do as the stupid Americans call it "Care givers" but over here we call ourselves owners not consider a pet name?
Every third dog in the park would run towards you if you called out the top most common names.
I must advise people not to give names like Tibby and Tabby to cats or Milly and Molly to dogs if you have two at the same time.
1. they will not thank you for it
2. you will not get the correct pet responding cos they cannot differentiate between subtle sound changes
3. it is just plain unimaginative
Also names such as Jam and Sponge for Gerbils and Fish and Chips for cats may sound funny at the time when you have the pair but Fish does not sound so cool when Chips was road kill!!!!!
I urge you think people Think
Lastly Kennel Club and Cat Fancy names are for show not pet names they are often impossible to say and don't forget no matter how much you paid for it it is only a cat!
y cat was called Tiger because she was a tortoise shell, and lasted for 25yrs, was gutted when she went. dogs we've had were called Peppi and pippo (chihuahuas; little *******s). And my fave dog which was my sis's was Pippin who sadly passed away a couple months back, he was awesome.
Currently (>_> There seems to be an alarmingly high turnover of pets in our family) we have Phoebe, a pug. Hetty, a spinger spaniel. Hugo, a bullmastif. We just got rid of Jeremy and Alfred our macaws.
Our old cats were called Merlin, Cassy, Riggs, Poridge (he was thick and white >_>).
We had a dog called Hovis...cant remember why; and another dog called Badger. A Cockatoo called Ellen because we for some reason figured it was gay.
Thats all I remember, weve had loads. But I think we avoid the common names list for now.
i used to have a goldfish called Henry, but he only lasted a week... umm... then he died and my dad flushed him down the toilet ;__; at least hes in goldfish heaven now ^__^ ... that or, hes in the sewer somewhere... =S
