Raikonnen - Fastest
Alonso - Best All Round
Hamilton - Has almost the speed of Raikonnen and the consistency of Alonso.
Button - Smooth driving, consistant when the car is balanced.
Vettel - Very fast, not consistant.
Kubica - Very fast. Unknown quantity.
Massa - Almost unstoppable with a clear track. Poor at overtaking.
Rosberg - We know hes fast, quite how fast is another question. And we know hes consistant. In the Brawn, can he be a title contender?
Predictions on driver lineups:
Raikonnen - McLaren if Button stays at Brawn, Toyota otherwise or retirement from F1.
Alonso - Ferrari
Hamilton - McLaren
Button - Brawn if not McLaren.
Vettel - Red Bull
Kubica - Renault
Massa - Ferrari
Rosberg - Brawn
Barichello - Williams/Retirement
Glock - Toyota or Williams, assuming Toyota stay.
Sutil - Would love to see him in a decent drive next year, see what he can do.
Also watch out for Mercedes switching to Brawn as its major team instead of McLaren. It will happen.
Sorry, i didnt see your first post here to reply. Theres been a lot of extensive analysis and leaked info coming out online as to possible drivers next year, though ive not checked up on it this week. Good pick on the Brawn->Mercedes move though. I really dont rate Raikkonen as that good though, especially now his heart doesnt seem to be in it. For me Alonso > Lewis > Massa > Vettel > Raikkonen > Button. Vettel can only get better though.
Theres some good new talent hitting F1 in 2010 too. I believe Hulkenberg is going to be at Williams next to Barrichello, after sitting in wait as their test driver - hes been as good/better than Crashajima and Rosberg in previous testing so should be good if williams can get a decent car together. Also Sebastian Loeb (6 times WRC champion and very impressive in Race of Champions) is likely to be moving to Toro Rosso or USF1. Piquet may be back, but with Force India if he doesnt move to nascar. Trulli at Mayasia GP (Lotus) with Fauzy as either driver or test driver. Campos i think are gonna have Senna and De La Rosa.
Prediction:
Ferrari: Alonso, Massa
McLaren: Hamilton, Button?
Mercedes(Brawn): Rosberg, Heidfeld
Williams: Barrichello, Hulkenberg
Red Bull: Vettel, Webber
Toro Rosso: Buemi, Loeb
Force India: Sutil, Piquet
Sauber: Kovaleinen, ?
Malaysia(Lotus): Trulli, Fauzy
Campos: Senna, De La Rossa
Still a bunch of teams and drivers ive missed out cos i have no idea about them. I really hope Raikkonen and Kobyashi are in next year somewhere though.
But why do you think its a bad move?
I agree that its not a step forward but i also dont think its a step back.
McLaren were starting to show become competative towards the end of the season.. so your right again 2010 will be a HELL of a season
Firstly Button isnt considered that good a driver; Alonso, Hamilton, Massa, Vettel, Raikkonen are all head and shoulders above him imo. To me at least hes more in the middle group of Webber, Heidfeld, Glock, Rosberg, Kubica, and Barrichello who could all do well if they had the car and reliability to go with it. So to put him in the same car as Lewis who's getting better year by year is likely to make him look bad if he cant keep up, which i dont see him doing in the McLaren team.
Secondly is that he's at home at Brawn and their lead driver, plus he knows everyone from Honda. McLaren seems very focussed around Lewis and hes going to be put first for everything, itll probably end how it did when Alonso tried to drive with them. Lewis and Jenson act like they get along, but Jenson seemed resentful of Lewis winning 2008 and wanting as much money, i think theres a huge rivalry/chip somewhere in that mix.
Whats even more interesting is that throughout the 2009 season, Barrichello set up the Brawns during practice, Jenson just took the same config and then whined when it didnt work for him. Perhaps because Rubens wasnt explaining how to make the setup work. Regardless though i think he helped Jenson get his crown and itll be interesting to see how well he can set up his McLaren.
The only benefits are likely a better car and more money, so for the risks it doesnt seem a great long term move especially if he does anything to upset McLarens golden boy.
keep an eye out for manor motorsport f1 as they are likely to be a shock outsider with best of the rest.
I don't expect them to rocket up the rankings like brawn did ( sorry merc f1 ) but they will be giving the back of the grid teams a run for there money and maybe getting midfield results from the off.
I dunno about shock, but they should be good, seems a lot of people think they may be starting with Glock too.
Theyre definitely up with Sauber ahead of all the new teams, perhaps even Force India and Toro Rosso. If their cars as quick as people seem to think it will be theyll probably be a few scoring points during the season.
watch this space, not this year but a few years to come we may see a female testing one of their cars....
women drivers
USF1 were talking about trying to get some woman from nascar, but the biggest problem is that the few good women drivers are already in very "profitable" positions in other motorsport and moving to a low end F1 team isnt great. Hopefully they cant bridge the gap, USF1 should help though.
