Its that time of year again. The Formula 1 season gets underway again next month. For 2009 there are some significant changes to the rules and regulations to try and encourage overtaking, including the re-introduction of slick tyres - this year could be a very exciting one, with much closer racing.
The credit crunch has taken it's toll and Honda have withdrawn from the Championship. The team is up for sale as has not yet announced it's intentions for this years championship. So as it stands, we are down to 18 cars, with 17 of the drivers positions confirmed already. It's just the second seat at Scuderia Toro Rosso that's to be filled, with Sato or Bourdais amongst the favourites to get the drive.
Welcome to the 2009 Fantasy F1 game, brought to you by FSPORTS.
Our Fantasy F1 competition is currently open to take your entries. There are some minor changes to this years competition based on the feedback received last year. These include:-
Driver values will change based on their popularity - they may change at any time.
Bigger starting budget of 40.0m
More statistics, and updated real-time
Better navigation for members with multiple teams
Revised scoring - points awarded for lower positions and any unspent team budget.

Most people will be familiar with the concept of 'Fantasy Leagues'. It adds a whole new level of entertainment to your favourite spectator sports. Fantasy RACERS offers you just that in the world of Formula 1 motor racing.
The format of the game is simple. You start with a budget of 40.0m which you use to buy drivers to represent your team in each of the races during the year. Your choice of drivers will be influenced by their fictitious 'price' which we have assigned to each of them for the purposes of this competition. You can pick as many drivers as you like as long as the total cost of your drivers does not exceed your team budget.
Drivers values can change at any time after the first cut-off and will fluctuate based on their popularity amongst our players. The more times that a driver is selected the more expensive they will become, with the less popular drivers getting cheaper. The price you pay for a driver will not change from the point you select them for your team, although your overall budget will be adjusted at the point you transfer them out. The price you actually get for a driver at the point you transfer them out will be 0.2m LESS THAN their current value. For example:-
You select Timo Glock at 7.0m at the beginning of the season. He doesn't have a great start so after the opening race his value has dropped to 6.0m. You choose to get rid of him, so when you take him out of your team your available funds are increased by 5.8m, leaving your overall team budget at 38.8m.
or
You select Timo Glock at 7.0m at the beginning of the season. He has a great start and wins the opening race. Everybody starts adding him to their team and before we get to Race 2 his value is up to 8.1m. You think it was a fluke and drop him so your available funds are increased by 7.9m. Your overall team budget becomes 40.9m.
All selected drivers will score points for your team based on their performance in each race, as set out on the 'How to Score' page. If your driver does not race you will not score any points in respect of that driver.
You are able to make as many changes to your driver line-up as you like, but remember every time you drop a driver from your team, your budget will effectively be reduced by 0.2m. This does not apply until after the cut-off for the first race.
Please note that the 'cut-off' for any changes is 17:00 UK time on the Friday before each race weekend. Any changes (or new entries) will still be accepted by the system but these will not be recognised for the current race weekend.
We have 5 players already, please make sure you register a team, it's far more fun the more players we get.

The Formula 1 season gets underway in just 2 weeks with the Melbourne GP. Now is the time to enter your team in the Fantasy F1 competition at Fantasy Racers : F1 Competition. If you've already entered, you may wish to give your team a final once over before things get underway.
For 2009 there are some changes to the rules and regulations to try and encourage overtaking, including the re-introduction of slick tyres - this year could be a very exciting one, with much closer racing. We also have the introduction on K.E.R.S. (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) although it remains to be seen whether any of the teams have developed a system that they would be happy to use in Melbourne.
As for personnel changes - Sebastian Vettel has moved from Toro Rosso to Red Bull, to replace the retired Coulthard, and Sebastien Buemi takes Vettels' old seat. Honda withdrew from the Championship at the end of last year and speculation throughout the winter was finally drawn to a close recently when a management buyout was completed. The team will now been known as Brawn GP, and will retain the services of Button and Barrichello for 2009.
As for our competition, there are some minor changes following the feedback we received last year. These include:-
Driver values will change based on their popularity - they may change at any time once the competition gets underway.
Bigger starting budget of 40.0m
More statistics, and updated real-time, (driver picks/values)
Better navigation for 'Preferential Account Holders' with multiple teams
Revised scoring - points awarded for lower positions and any unspent team budget.
You have until 17:00 GMT on Friday 27th March to create your team and finalise your driver line-up ahead of the Australian GP.
As many of you will be aware, the changing driver values is a new feature to Fantasy Racers for 2009. Following a review of the competitions progress thus far, it is necessary to make a couple of small changes to help keep the competition running in the spirit in which it is intended. Most people will not be impacted by these changes.
With effect from the Spanish Grand Prix, the following new rules are being introduced:-
* A team will be permitted no more than 9 drivers at any one time, budget permitting.
* The amount of points awarded for unspent budget will be capped at 200 points per race.
Whilst I do not like to add rules mid season, it is thought necessary on this occasion to prevent a potential loophole in the competitions scoring to be exploited. As ever, if you wish to comment on this message, or the competition in general, you can do so through our contact page.
