Anyone ells here a Diabetic ?
The three main Categories are:- Diet Controlled Tablet <<<Me Insulin I was until 18 months ago diet controlled, now I am on tablets, although I had warning signs some 20 years ago, I was only picked as being a Diabetic after a car Accident initially going to doctor for Whiplash finding out I had high blood pressure, which meant going for Blood test which found I had early Diabetes. I gave up smoking just on 2.5 Years ago, Blood pressure dropped below Normal, stopped taking the Blood pressure tablets only to be told by Doctor I need to carry on taking a blood pressure tablet as I was a Diabetic lol, admittedly changed the type so my Blood pressure returned to normal. I now do at least 3 miles a day on an exercise bike just under 15 mins with 10 min working up a sweat. Its changed my Life for the better, I may live longer than I would of, if I had not had that car accident. At the time it never occurred to me that the accident was about to extend life I was far to busy shitting my self lol. Do you have a real life story ? |

Dude, my father was diagnosed with diabetes, but the lifestyle version, type 2 i think?
Anywho, never knew he had it but when we look back the symptoms were there for years. It was one day because my cousing has diabetes that my uncle insisted that my dad do the blood test on the machine, and it came out as something like blood sugar level 22. My dad still thinks that he hasnt got it and acts accordingly, he treats it almost like a joke, even though one of his brothers died from complications of it. Right now he is on pills, but i fear that because of his contempt for his illness he will very soon degenerate. Though we have had our run-ins i hope that one day he will grow up and respect the illness. It something that can be easily controlled and you can live a fullsome life as long as you respect the illness you have. So good for you dude, as long as you stick to what you need to do, there is no reason why you cant go on as normal. Hopefully you will live a lot longer than you otherwise would have if you continued on your pork life lol. |

I get low blood sugar that I can control by diet, but I don't think I could ever stick a fucking syringe into my belly or arse or wherever it is, one mate from school used to have to do that.
From what I've seen, diabetes can be a brilliant excuse for acting like a total wankstain. Just go crazy when you don't get your own way then a couple of days later blame it on fatness AIDS. Hopefully in a few years diabetics will be able to bite into specially bred babies arteries and get all fixed up by stem cells and GM chimaera Frankenstein science from babies that got 'aborted' at 8 months but secretly got stealed away by diabetes science men with all the answers. Kind of like using the knitting needles as chopsticks to fish the little fucker out rather than the current method of shish-kebabing it hundreds if times and hoping it's dead. Then we can all celebrate with battered Mars Bars. |

My Uncle has diabetes. Its totally controlled his life for the last 10 years. He used to be quite happy, self content and went about doing his own thing. Now, he has a very strict routine that he sticks to -every single day- , along with the pills and the insulin he has to take every day to control his blood sugar levels.
But, he gets on with life - not quite as actively as you Dawolf, (in fact far from it) so its good to see that you have seen the brighter side of it instead of, like my uncle, secluding himself away and restricting himself to strict daily regimes. |

I will admit at first it hit me hard, worse was the constant tiredness I suffered, exercise is the key. The saying " A health Body leads to a health mind" comes to mind here, any amount of exercise helps & leads to better control of diabetes Tell your uncle there is no reason he cant lead a normal active healthy life, in fact the more active the better. |

I've had a couple of friends and colleagues who were diabetic,
one managed to handle the insulin injections and diet perfectly, and never went hypo, another however was totally stress-oriented, never payed attention to meals, and couldn't tell when he was going hypo, he was a nightmare to be around, always running to the vending machine for mars bars, coke, and stabilise him, time and again, it ended up destroying his eyesight and nerves, now he can't work, i suppose it's up to the individual, not to let it take control, not a pleasant condition to have, but then again not the worst. |

I think it should be pointed out that low blood sugar is the opposite of Diabetes (high blood sugar) although Diabetics are the people most likely to get dangerously low blood sugar because of their medication or insulin injections working too well.
I think that alcohol is a big cause of low blood sugar since it often causes it to plummet, especially 2-4 days after drinking but it just means that you will generally feel like crap and have no energy, motivation and get other mental problems, it won;t put you in a coma like a Diabetic getting low blood sugar after an insulin injection. |

Low Blood sugar in diabetics more often is bad management of Medication & meals. Quote:
I don’t know if a none Diabetic has ever gone into a Coma, however I suspect its more than possible, if someone was to have a high Sugar intake, then go on a Alcohol drinking binge they could end up with a serious low Blood Sugar. |

Normally the body regulates blood sugar within a pretty narrow margin no matter if you up ended a pack of Tate and Lyle into your gob but lots of people have problems regulating it mainly due to lifestyle I believe. |
