recently ive been feeling more and more 'detached' from life, like i feel detached from everything, like nothing matters, nobody matters, i dont matter, like everything we do is pointless and just a waste of time.
i used to be fairly social, but now i feel kinda like a mute, i dont feel like talking to anyone, i just wanna be on my own. i dont really talk to my friends or family much now, i spend most of my time sleeping or on the internet.this is such a horrible feeling, because i just cant see the point of anything anymore. i feel like im stood here, and things are happening around me and flowing smoothly without me, i feel like a ghost with everything just happening regardless of me. and when people talk to me, their words just go through me. i can hear their words, but i cant make sense of them, i cant be bothered to make sense of them. it doesnt matter what theyre saying, theyre just human - like me. its weird... its like, before, i had a purpose to live, but now i dont. but nothing has changed, im still going to uni and shit, but suddenly ive realised that nothing matters. ive lost motivation for everything. my course, my friends, my family, my life in general. i feel completely disconnected from the whole universe, like my very existence in just ... pointless? this post probably wont make any sense, but i was just trying to make sense on things atm. my mind is just like X_X atm ... ![]() can anyone make sense of this? |

This is what we in the trade call "emoitis".
Nah, seriously, go and hang with your mates... go to the pub and have a laugh or whatever you find fun, see if it cheers you up. Also, has anything happened over the past few days that perhaps at the time you just brushed off but are now thinking a bit more about? ![]() |

I hate to say it but i've felt very similiarly before in the past. If you're feeling as bad as I think you are; do not let your self slip into depression, because that brings out a whole new range of feelings, bad ones. Also, talk to your friends, family, anything. Keep your self active and don't dwell on the past (Or the present,if that happened to have caused it),otherwise, you will end up making your self feel worse. Get moral support of people,if they're your friends they should be more than willing to talk.
There's not much more I can say really, since it's you that needs to find your own motivation for life and I nor anyone else can tell you that. I wish I could help some more, but i'm not too sure what else to say,pm me if you wish to speak some more. |

If you find yourself feeling like that again, speak to your GP,
it's the first port of call, even if it's just for a chat, you won't necessarily be given prescribed medicines, although it can ease a lot of people out of what would have been full blown depression, it may simply be that you need to change your routine, try getting up early in the mornings, and going for a walk somewhere nice, eat a hearty breakfast, and go somewhere where you can at least have a chat, try swimming or some other gentle excercise that raises your heart rate for 30mins - 1 hour a day if you find yourself spending long periods of time at the pc, do it during the daylight hours if possible, with the curtains open, and don't have late night / early hours sessions sat by yourself, also cut down on caffiene, sugary drinks and foods, especially chocolate, or try to moderate your intake, take multivitamins and eat a bit of fruit, more importantly, try to get out and have a laugh, it really is the best medicine! ![]() Last edited by Mars; 10-01-2008 at 16:13. yeah what you describe does sound a bit like depresion,
but tbh I would think of it as that for now as its normal for most people to go through some sort of low feeling in their lives, 1 in 3 in fact usualy end up seeking medical help at some point too. theres many things that can make you feel like that :- obviously the first thing to consider is problems in your life that are getting you down that need to be fixed, or anything else thats on you mind, somethings you push out of your mind can still trouble you even though you dont consiously think of them. next is sleep, obviously lack of sleep can make you feel low, get a decent amount of sleep preferably the same amount each and every night and at the same time, with no late nights all week then try and sleep all weekend to make up for it lolz. any drugs alcohol etc, they affect people in diferent ways, they might make you feel better for a short time but obviously theres drawbacks, im sure i dont need to say more ... healthy food, brain chemistry is a delicate balance, particularly seratonin wich has a profound effect on the mood and feelings you describe, some things actualy have more seratonin than others such as bananas, vitamin supplements may work, but I know most people here are scepitcal, however the little chance of them doing any harm if your sensible witht them it maybe worth trying. fresh air sunlight, there is a condition called SAD seasonaly afective disorder, where your mood is affected by how much sunlight you get, strange but seems to be widley accepted. excersie to can make you feel better, doing stuf that just feels like hard work isnt realy exercise, walking to uni at a brisk rate definatly does count and makes you feel like your doing something worthwile too. and of course trying to make time for things in your life that just simply enjoy or make you happy, some people I know say the thing that has given them most satisfaction in their lives has been voulantry work. finally if its a real problem the GP is your gateway to medical help, there are many medical conditions wich can be the cuase of depression, just low blood pressure or high/low blood sugar levels, theres a myriad of things, some gps tend to dish out antidepressants like smarties, they can have bad side effects and make you worse, you realy need to rule everything else out, but for some people stuff like prozac is a godsend. there are do it yourself antidepressants such as st johns wart wich is a natural herb but dont be fooled into thinking it is 100% safe, it has the same effect as some prescription medications. but many people consider it has virtually no side effects compared to prescription medication. |
