General Gaming DiscussionUse this section to discuss all things relating to PC gaming, including games that are coming soon, released games & classic gaming and also post here for general mmorpg chat that is not covered by an individual mmorpg section.
A Patent files 1 year before xbox was resesed has been granted to Nintendo
Quote:
"In the claims section, the patent describes a chat system that uses a remotely stored buddy list, supports multiple statuses, broadcasts information about active gaming activities, displays notification of events including the arrival of new e-mail messages, facilitates transmission of player preferences, and enables users to communicate with each other either with voice or text messages. Keep in mind that this patent does not cover game-oriented chat in general; it specifically describes a console gaming chat mechanism that displays game information and uses a buddy list."
Its also though that Xbox live may be infringing on thie patent and that something will have to be worked out.
Seems like big news, but if possible i doubt Nintendo would file for Live to be shut down, something like that MS would drag out in the courtroom for years.
Patants a is an exclusive right to that idea, if you infringe on it you have to take that feature out of live straight away if they want you too, then you battle in the court room for an appeal or work something out.
Also if you keep up with the tech news MS is having a hard time with lawsuits due to the big Anti Trust issue at the moment. So they will want to settle a deal rather then go to court
But its Nintendo and they are not like that, like the article says they will work something out like royalties or swap features something like that.
Imagin if it was Sony though, they would be straight on to shut live down and keep it shut.
a fair solution to this issue would clearly be putting Halo 3 on Wii instead of X360 ^_^
I think royalties will be sorted out which would suit Nintedo far better than forcing Xlive to change as they see themselves not in competition with the M$ machine.
