Bungie Hirings Spark Halo 2 Pc Gossip
Bungie job ads appearing in its 'Latest Openings' section of its website have sparked speculation that the developer is planning an in-house PC port of Xbox FPS Halo 2.
PC-related positions including graphics programmer, audio programmer, game programmer and network programmer are advertised and, while that's about as informative as a two-word operating manual, internet gossips say job descriptions attached to the ads are semi-evidence of Halo 2 heading to PC.
The evidence? Well first up, each job description kicks off with the general statement: "Want to work on the biggest franchises for Microsoft Game Studios? This is an opportunity to influence the direction of Windows gaming technology in MGS." Now, the only publicly-known Microsoft Game Studios franchise with which Bungie is involved is Halo, although the use of 'franchises' in the wording clouds things somewhat.
Second, each job description calls for "Experience with shipping one or more games, knowledge of DirectX 9 and Xbox SDKs and x86 assembly, and being an avid PC gamer are definite plusses." Obviously, attention is being drawn to the mention of Xbox SDKs, which is certainly suggestive but by no means conclusive evidence of plans for a Halo 2 PC port.
However, even if these jobs are in no way connected to Halo 2 on PC, it could be that Bungie is being handed the task of porting certain other first-party Xbox games (and possibly first-party Xbox 360 titles) to the platform. But that's purely a bit of speculation.
