Way of the Samurai
I'm a sucka for Japanese history, i'm fascinated by the Samurai era and how they came and went, I especially liked the film 'The Last Samurai' but thats not what I came to talk about.
A few years back now I purchased a game from a pre-owned bin titled 'Way of the Samurai', now at this point I didn't know what to expect.
A few hours later after I got home from work (I purchased this during lunch lol) I loaded it up and the game slightly caught me off guard.
The battle system was very unique, forcing the foes off balance and the amount of attacks you could learn.
But again, I was caught off guard, after a good 30 minutes play I had actually completed the game lol, there was 6 endings in total and loads of different paths through Rokkotsu Pass spread over 2 days, it was fun and I still play the original to this day.
So then a few days ago, I get round to finally purchasing 'Way of the Samurai 2', to tell you the truth I was expecting alot seeing Capcom on board with Aquire as Capcom was responsible for the legendary and still going strong Onimusha saga.
To be honest, the game caught me off guard again, I was impressed to see they'd actually got some proper voices to accompany the characters and some cool new looking characters but the battle system was all different and somewhat harder, it felt slightly blocky and slower and there was alot more parrying than pushing and alot of repetitive moves to kill bosses, which wasn't needed in the original.
I still stand by the statement that this game is harder than the original but the original is better in terms of gameplay, I'm sure i'll get used to it in time but it seems a shame that there probably won't be anymore Way of the Samurai titles now, Way of the Ninja was being made apparently but I'll miss my old Samurai favourite, ah well, at least Onimusha 4 comes out this year.
What did everyone else think about these titles?
I like them both but the sequal doesn't really match in battle terms, the story is good but the battle is very slow.
