i shal explain the both incase you understand neither.
Counterstike is a Mod of HalfLife. The FPS released about 5 years ago which won awards left right and centre for being great. CS is a mod that exchanges silly guns and monsters for Terrorist and Counter Terrorist forces, with Colts AKs and so on, to pit against eachother to meet certain targets. the most popular being Hostage rescue and Bomb Deployment.
ince that thime,. the people behind the original halflife have been working long and hard to make the sequel. Half Life 2 is the result, and is due to be released in a month or 2. the main qualities of HL2 are the phenominal graphics, great sound effect, perfect maps, just generaly a great game.
Seeing as how the original counter strike mod is the most popular online game this side of china, it was inevitalbe that a new version would be released based upon the Half life 2 Engine. this has been boune out in Counter Strike: Spurce.
Currently in Beta, people areoung the world lucky enough to play are testing it and submitting bug reports to Valve in order to make it perfect for its final release (alongside HL2). a link with scrrenys is below. but they dont do the game justice.
when you shoot a tyre on the map, it will fly along just as you would expect, if it standing when you shoot, it will roll away. the barrels on maps can be knocked over, bits of scenery destroyed as they take fire. Grenages now feel dangerous, you get a slight ring in your ear if one goes off near you. the guns/maps/skins all look sublime, imersing you even more into the whole terrorist v counter terrorist scenario. when you shoot inside a tunnel, it SOUNDS like you are. the echoes and other sound effects are spot on. when you run on sand it sounds perfect, when you shoot into a barrel it sounds spot on.
but alas the best new thing, and its only minor, has to be the flashbangs. in the furst CS, when flashed the screen would go whiute for a set period depending on how much of the flash you caught. with the new ones, it actualy feels like YOU were the one getting flashed, as opposed tothe character you are using.
when a flash goes off near you, the screen flashes white, you get a ringing sound in your ears which blocks out everything else. when the sight strtsto cvome back, the image of the last thing you saw is still burnt into your retina, and gradualy it fades into the new refreshed image of where you are.
to play CS:Source in beta you will need one of the following:
a local lan place to play in (all lan shops were given a copy of beta for people to try)
a ATI voucgher from an ATI card purchased while ATI had the deal running with Valve
a copy of CS: Condition Zero (a single player version of counter strike released about 7-8 months ago, using the original 1999 engine)
