KEIRA Knightley is to reunite with
Pride & Prejudice director Joe Wright for a remake of
My Fair Lady, according to a new report.
The Daily Telegraph claims that the British actress has beaten Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson to land the coveted role of Eliza Doolittle.
The revival is being produced by Sir Cameron Mackintosh, while Emma Thompson is writing the script.
James Bond star Daniel Craig has also been touted as a possible Professor Henry Higgins.
Knightley has long wanted to play the role of Doolittle and reportedly took up singing lessons last year to enhance her chances. She is currently preparing to make her West End debut alongside Damian Lewis in
The Misanthrope
Wright, meanwhile, was free to direct after his most recent project,
Indian Summer, was postponed indefinitely due to concerns from the Indian government over the portrayal of the alleged love affair between Countess Mountbatten of Burma and Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first prime minister.
