Star Robbie Williams announces comeback album and single

ROBBIE Williams has announced details of a comeback album and single, as well as a track that’s been re-written in tribute to late pop icon Michael Jackson.

The new album will be called Reality Killed The Video Star and it will be released on November 9. It will be preceded by the single Bodies on October 11, 2009.

The LP will mark Williams’ first since 2006’s Rudebox, which was greeted with a lukewarm response from critics and fans.

Writing in an online blog, however, Williams described Reality Killed The Video Star as “a killer” record and promised that fans would hear “old Robbie, new Robbie and a Robbie that neither of us have met”.

He also wrote of his tribute to Michael Jackson: “I couldn’t get a lyric to fit on one of the new songs. When he passed away I re-wrote it with him in mind.”

Ironically, Williams has been working with lyricist Don Black, who co-wrote one of Jackson’s earliest hits, Ben, on the new album, whom he credited with helping him to emerge from a case of writer’s block.

“Don Black kindly came in and gave me a helping hand. He’s the nicest legend I’ve ever met. I love him,” he added.

Fans can get a taster of what to expect from the new LP by heading to Williams’ website, where a video contains instrumental samples from some of the new material.

The material has been produced by Trevor Horn, who has previously worked on albums from Pet Shop Boys and Frankie Goes To Hollywood.
