Often, when I check guestbooks on other sites, ignorant people post things saying stuff like "grow up and stop watching anime" and "this is so immature." Yes some is created for children, but when we think of the content of most anime, isn't this the opposite?
For starters, anime runs deep. It deals with mental issues such as the loss of loved ones, the effects of bullying and rape, suicide, amongst other things which affect us. These things are frightening to think about and with anime delving into the charecter's psyches it can often be a very emotional experience. Would younger children really watch this, and understand this? Wouldn't it be confusing and in some cases, quite traumatizing?
Secondly, the ****ographic side of anime. Anime can be extremely adult and filthy, featuring graphic scenes of squealing women being gang raped by drooling, leering monsters. Who would let there children watch that? Most adults I know wouldn't even watch it.
Also, as anime features plenty of attractive characters, they tend to be shown, in some anime, stripping or in stages of undress or doing things with other characters that children wouldn't understand. Also, the characters wear outfits that often leave little to the imagination, or girls are shown with their panties flashing. Not for kids, I would say.
Thirdly, the violent side. Blood sprays and limbs fly often in anime with the characters being killed in gory ways, or there are extremely violent fights and wars which would terrify most kids and give them nightmares. Or characters being mutated into unsightly forms or bloodthirsty beasts.
The fourth reason, the horror side. Anime features plenty of disturbing scenes and situations which scare even some adults I know. It also features characters talking about horrible things and making frightening revelations, or doing terrible things. Most parents wouldn't let their kids watch any horror movies and I don't think they would let them watch this.
And lastly, the forbidden love of anime. I know CLAMP say that their relationships in CCS are inocent and meant to be viewed through a child's eyes, but some anime portrays this in a graphic way, featuring scenes of kissing and sex between characters of the same sex. I have nothing against homosexuals or bisexuals, but this would be confusing for a young child, and if they were influenced it could cause problems for them at such a tender age.
Well, I have finished my rant. Would you still say anime is a children's thing after reading this? I most certainly wouldn't.
I've used most of those excuses (well, short versions of those excuses) trying to explain why I watch anime to my parents...
Had already made up my mind b4 reading this post
i got asked once why i was "watching cartoons", i told them it was anime from japan and its nothin like a kiddy cartoon. they sat and watched it, ended up liking it lol

was watching a coupole of guyver eps (the two first ones) and i would say they werent for children but im at my teens now and with todays news children stuff like you mentoned could be confusing but from what ive heard a stroll down the right parts of soho could be confusing(not saying anything and have never been to soho but tv yknow). But i thouroughly enjoyed watching the guyver and intend to borrow ghost in the shell movie from a good m8
but anime is such a fantastic dimension that you cant help but watch , the imaginations of other people can literraly be stepped into and that is what i love about anime and anyone who should grow up becuase they watch anime just encourage people to watch it themselves tbh
I've seen a couple of the Guyver tv series... Think it was the BioBooster series? Whatever; point is I enjoyed the first movie (2nd 1 was a bit naff) and jumped right into the animé
Shame Sci-fi channel stopped showing animé :'(
hmm... might start up an animé channel and broadcast it on Sky... Kids stuff during the day, with the good stuff during prime time, movies from 10pm, and maybe one or two *ahem* around midnight

was love hina btw which is pretty funny
Japanese Love Hina is awesome anime, I watched some of them English dubbed and you can tell exactly how dumbed down it is, how the english voice actors tend to hold back saying words like 'breasts', some of it feels so forced and in any case alot of the voices don't suit the characters, give me Love Hina in Japanese any day I say.
I would says it more for teenagers more than kids, doubt many 25+ year old watch it regulary, only show i liked was DBZ and that was ages ago
Same, I used to triple bum DBZ when I was about 11-12. But now I really don't get them, despite the fact some of my friends watch Naruto, I really don't get what the hell it is, so just change convos or tell them to stop watching Naruto, cos I'm bear mature.
Saw an advert on a kids channel that they're gonna start showing Naruto >.<
Is the Jetix channel (sky 609, telewest 707, ntl no idea).
You can be sure there's gonna be no blood, no swearing, poorly dubbed
Thanks for bumping this thread Buster; I had forgotten that I wanted to start my own anime channel >.<
Things like haloween costume distracted me >.<
I was thinking of interactive content before I stopped thinking about it. Things like Original audio with optional eng subs. There'd be repeats of what's on during the day for the kids repeated around 2am - uncut; so with blood and the likes, you know?

ive alrdy seen a bit of the american narutos, i just heard naruto's voice, lol'd and deleted the file
I would say no. Most anime's are aimed at 13+ but you've gotta take into account in Japan parents aren't worried about blood and gore and stuff like that in anime or so i'm told. When a anime comes over here they should do what they did with the Guyver years ago on Sci Fi show the proper version after 12 with subs and stop these crappy companies ruining good animes.
