It's the same boat really. If you liked Britney Spears for example, and your an 18 year old male, people will generally take the **** out of you and call you a loser, sad whatever etc. There will always be people who think your lower than them because of what you are interested in, and it is utterly pathetic really.
Im into Jazz music, and my r/l friends take the **** out of me for it. Their into Rap/Rock, generally the crowd who will put someone down because of their interests. Now i dont mind my m8s taking the ****, because their m8s, but i still argue the fact that Jazz music is absolutely in no way anything to be ashamed of.
It's the same with games. Im a heavy gamer myself, i do not consider myself anything other than myself. So i play games all the time? Someone who would call me a Geek for that probably goes out drinking all the time. There is no difference, it's personal preference, what you as an individual likes to do, and if anyone wants to put you down for it, let them. Just remember the fact that they are no better than you are.
i tihk true proper geeks are only the extremes from movies really.
i play a lot of games, i love science fiction, and i get hard for new bits of hardware fo my PC AND i wear glasses. but im no geek, i have a social life with what the popular culture would call "cool" people, i have a wonderful girlfriend, and i dont **** off over babes from star trek.
my brother is 16 and sits in his room coding in C++ or palying EI all day. but hes no geek either. he doesnt have glasses, hes not too fond of science fiction, hes too popular with girls and he has way too much confidence.
but we both call our selves geeks, its just easier tbh lol
10 years ago we definatly would have been, ecause we knew about computers, and anyone that knew about computers back then was considered a geek. but with PCs as popular as they are in this day and age, everys that little bit closer to take the edge off it
either ay. dont try and change just to stop other people ribbing you over something. do what you wanna do, when you wanna do it, cos if everyone was the same, this planet would be more boring that its ever been.
I'm sure you're not a geek soulfly, chakotay would have told me if so. Playing games 24/7 and going to events like Mirstock doesnt mean you're a geek....... :whist:
i know i'm not a geek, after reading some of the posts and opinions in these forums i can see that now.
i may do some geeky things but i sure as hell dont have the geek mentality, its those type of people that i ****ing hate. and there all over this forum.
i dont play games 24/7 and never been to mirstock(not saying that i wouldnt)

i play games all time(apart from when i'm at work) am i a geek?
this is a question i ask myself a lot, sometimes i think i am sometimes i think i'm not.
i dont like total computer freaks(they're geeky lol) but all i do when i'm home is play games.
i dont know if i want to be a geek or not
no-one has actually said to me that i am and until that day i'll keep thinking i'm not and slagging off those who i think are geeks.
Why dont you just do what you enjoy doing and forget about the lables other people impose on you?
