It seems the BBC {British Broadcasting Corporation} have to apply for some sort of extension on the TV Licence Fee so i was wondering if people think they should get it or not?
Do you think they are worth the money? They waste so much money its unbelievable.
At the Euro 2004 tournament there were 5 reporters from various parts of the BBC waiting to ask a question of the England players. Thats 5 reporters plus their production staff all from the same company sent to Portugal. Surely one could have asked the questions for all. They send a whole team of commentators and experts to Portugal and what do they do. They watch the same pictures i do at home and comment on that.
£200,000 a year to the fat cow who plays Kat in Eastenders. WTF is that all about?
The TV is swamped with Soaps, Gardening Program, DIY Programs etc but where are the quality drama programs that the BBC used to be famous the world over for? Do you think they make quality programs anymore?
Do you think its unfair that the BBC has what seems to be a monopoly while other TV firms have to fund their own way?
Personally i think the BBC has become lazy and not getting an extension would hopefully wake them up enough to produce some decent stuff for a change.
you do have to bear in mind that the liscence fee is the reason theres no adverts on the BBC, although to be fair the last time there was something on worth watching that id want to avoid adverts for i honestly cant remember.
Compared to most countries tho, we pay somewhere in the region of 4-5 times the amount for a liscence fee as anyone else.
Give the cash to channel 5, imo i watch stuff on there far more than on the beeb.... even bbc 3 has gone to pot recently.
There is a whole pile of junk on TV really, the DIY and Gardening stuff really annoys me...
Thing is, they've expanded so much over the last few years in their online offerings and all the new BBC channels. They have to be needing money sometime soon to pay for all that.
I think its too much money for the shows we got, the only decent TV we have had recently is the football and wimbledon.
But oh well, their is nothing we can do really about it. It should be lowered, i wouldnt mind paying it so much if their was a) better TV programs, b) fitter women employed on teh crap shows.
The UK's requirement to have a license to watch tv is actually listed on dumblaws.com, haha. It is quite a monopoly. You can't say "I'm not paying a license, fair enough, I won't watch BBC channels", because they're broadcast all over the UK, and you're always capable of receiving them. If they raise the license fee, close to 100% of households in the UK will be quite screwed.
So what's this about? Would the extension be mandatory for all viewers?

The BBC are quite happy to advertise their own products when it suits them like videos, books, etc.

channel five seems to be stomping the beeb as its picking up all the good films and series' (like angel and charmed) that the bbc just wont go for.
they would rather pay pampered soap stars and talk show presenters silly money to slowly liquify the minds of the viewing population.
if they cant work with the horrible amount of money weve allready handed to them then they dont deserve more. drama, news and documentaries have been replaced with jade, jodie and jordan ¬.¬
also the TV license is gay anyway. i dont watch tv 'ever' but still use my TV for games consoles and watching films/DVDs. despite this, i still have to pay whatever it was (£120?).
im happy to pay it. i hate adverts and lol @ channel 5 being good :/
although i have to agree that things like eastenders are a total waste of money. its a sad state of affairs if youre reduced to watching soaps.
put it this way. who on earth would have watched the football tonight on itv with adverts every 6 minutes that they werent playing. surely everyone watched it on bbc. ok itv did the 'des's last show' sympathy vote thing, but forget that.
i also find it funny that if ur registered blind, ur entitled to something like £20 off ur tv license.

I preferred the commentators on ITV
Nah actually I switched between the two, watched BBC1 while ITV was on a break
I hardly ever watch tv.. there are too many of the same home/property/ shows lke Location Location Location, property ladder, a place in the sun, how clean is your house, etc.. You just get bored of the same **** over and over.
If I do watch TV its usually Sky1, or some of the movie channels. Sky is crap now too though, like 200 channels and hte majority of it is crap.
Plus when the footie starts I'm going to have to fork out £200 for Setanta to see the games
I hope they dont get it and have to put adverts on, it may make them think about there programming and get something for people to watch. Thinking back over the past week out of of approxamatley 20 hours of TV viewing (well reading whilst GF watches TV) we watched less than ten minutes on BBC and that was channel surfing during the adverts. I even prefer watching films with adverts in them, gives me time to make a snack, visit the toilet and such like.
Only reason I'm (going to) pay my TV license is purely because I need something half decent to play my Xbox/Anime on. I don't watch TV anymore, majority of it is absolute $hit.
definitely worth it. They have said they're stopping focusing on the shows that have good ratings.... Hopefully that means there'll be less **** and more good quality dramas.
The quality of news, dramas (if you go back a few years, still some good ones though), radio and website is very high, so I'd prefer that it was renewed. However I do think they should get rid of BBC4 and maybe BBC3, for the amount of people that watch them, I dont think they're quite worth the money.
I agree on the football point too, the commentators they get are always better on ITV, so I'd much prefer to watch a game with ITV. If all that money was redirected to new dramas, the BBC would be in a much better state.
I dont think you can complain about eastenders so much though, whilst I dont like it all, enough people watch it constantly to justify it. I think £200,000 a year is somewhat reasonable for full time acting in a soap of that popularity, they probably need to pay somewhat large salaries in order to not have an incredibly high turnover of actors.... Thus ruining it.
the licence fee is a joke , i read the other week they would have to put it up to £1000 per television set so they stand a chance in bidding for sporting events.. and wot happens every christmas repeats upon repeats.. grrr
