im currently having a problem with my internet connection i.e. certain things appear to be getting blocked, by the router i presume.
example: ive just installed limewire on my pc and set the windows firewall to allow it. opened limewire and connected to the network, tried to download a file and it wouldn't do a thing. thought that was a bit strange so i tried a different version of limewire still no joy. open and closed limewire again and now i cant connect to the network at all.
went into my router settings and disabled it's personal firewall...still no joy.
also i noticed that when it failed to connect to limewire's network, my internet disconnected for a few seconds, msn closed, xfire closed, couldnt connect to any site. after another few seconds, everything came back online.
this also happens when im playing certain games, currently im only playing battlefield 2 online at present. it takes me ages to find a server which i can connect to and my friend's seem to be able to connect to them fine.
i'm pretty stumped on what the problem is seeing as i've disabled both windows and my router's firewall, plus this has only been a recent problem, yet i haven't changed any settings?
the router is: Belkin ASDL Modem with built in wirelss router and wireless G USB network adapter
my computer connects to the network via the provided adapter.
I think you need to forward the port. Try to find out the port number (from a quick search it seems to be 6346. It doesn't seem to say which protocol it uses http://limewire.com/english/content/...sary.php#port).
I don't know how to do it on that router, but with mine you go to the router settings pages, click on applications and gaming, click on single port forwarding, enter the port (6346) in the external and internal port then enter your internal IP address, and it should work.
This should fix limewire, but I don't know why your other programs are doing that
cheers for the tips u 2. im able to connect to limewire's network again now (cudnt find the forwarding port but i noticed that upnp was disabled so i turned that on), but it still won't allow me to download anything.
aye think i'll try a reset and see if that does anything
edit: lol really annoyed now, i have people downloading off me but i can't download off them >.< *hits router*
using wireless is like peeing on your garden rather than using a hose, its all nice and hip to be wireless!, but the reality is that
the connection quality is a rather drab picture of lost packets and time outs
real bandwidth hogs still love their wires :0)
