Default DVD RAM drive writing problem

recently i bought an LG 16x Super Multi DVD/CD Rewriter code number: GSA-4167B

ive been having a problem with it eva since i started using it. i've been writing DVDs using 8x DVD-Rs. problem is if i select write @ 8x i get an error before it starts writing on the DVD saying:

it allows me to write @ 4x with no problems, just has a panic attack when i try 8x. so does anyone know wot the problem cud be? i dont have anymore DVDs apart from these to try. CDs write fine at any speed.

would love any help i get
