New Laptop (macbook Pro 15 inch)

Hi all,

My wife is currently looking for a new computer. Her old one (desktop pc) is like 8 years old. So it really is time for her to buy a new one as it is becoming very slow. The only decission that currently is made is that she wants a laptop with the following requirements:

- The laptop should be faster as her current computer (don't think that will be an issue)
- It should be possible to prepare her courses for school (some kind of text editor).
- It should be possible to browse the internet.
- It should be possible to use MSN messenger.

The requirement I added:
- It should be possible to open crap from mails without infecting the computer to much.

Currently my eye fell on the MacBook Pro with 15 inch screen (she confirmed that the screensize is enough for her). Before she only used Windows and windows programs, so next to the mac programs like Pages, Numbers, Keynote, I would also buy the Office package for mac with Word and Excel. This to make the transition to a mac a little smoother for her. I also prefer a Mac when it comes to creating courses. Do you think this would be a good computer to buy? If not, what do you suggest otherwise? Thanks in advance for your help

Dude, I've currently got my eye on a 17" MacBook Pro. I've got a few friends at uni who've got them, they love the things. Really quick, not particularly heavy, battery life is pretty good and they look really nice as well. They're not that hard to get used to either, heh.

[Edit] Oh, Apple also advertise their Mac's as being pretty secure and not really affected by viruses. How much truth there is in this, I don't know, but I don't think there's that many bits of crap that target Macs. It's mostly Windows 'cause it's so widely used.

Only thing stopping me is the price tag on the one I want - can't really afford £1500 right now.
